Baldur's Gate 3 DLC: Larian ruled out expansions, and here's what came free instead

Baldur’s Gate 3 never got a story expansion, and Larian made sure players knew it wasn’t coming. Here’s what Larian said, what the one paid add-on includes and what the free patches added.

Does Baldur’s Gate 3 have DLC?

Baldur’s Gate 3 has no story DLC or expansion. Larian Studios released it on Aug. 3, 2023, on PC, and it has since come to PS5, Xbox Series X and S and Mac. The only paid add-on on Steam is the Digital Deluxe Edition upgrade, which launched with the game.

Every other addition, from new endings and subclasses to cross-play and official mods, came in free patches.

Larian ruled out expansions in April 2024

In a community update on April 18, 2024, Larian said it wouldn’t add any major new narrative content to Baldur’s Gate 3 or its origin characters and companions, “nor will we be making expansions or Baldur’s Gate 4.” After six years in the Forgotten Realms, the studio decided to develop its own games, and said it was working on two new projects.

That’s the answer to every search for Baldur’s Gate 3 DLC plans, a release date or a cancellation: Larian chose not to make one. Wizards of the Coast, which owns Dungeons and Dragons, hasn’t announced another Baldur’s Gate game either.

The $9.99 Digital Deluxe Edition upgrade

The Digital Deluxe Edition upgrade costs $9.99 on Steam. In the game, it adds a Bard Song Pack, an exclusive dice skin, Paintings from Rivellon placed across the Forgotten Realms and an Adventurer’s Pouch of camp supplies and potions.

It also includes five items inspired by Divinity: Original Sin 2: the Mask of the Shapeshifter, which changes your race and appearance on the fly, the Cape of the Red Prince, the Lute of the Merryweather Bard, the Needle of the Outlaw Rogue and the Bicorne of the Sea Beast. Outside the game, you get Borislav Slavov's digital soundtrack, a digital artbook and printable Dungeons and Dragons character sheets for each origin character.

Patch 8, the final patch: 12 subclasses, cross-play and Photo Mode

Larian released Patch 8 on April 15, 2025, and called it the final major game patch, the last one to add new content. It brought 12 new subclasses, one for each class, including the Path of the Giant Barbarian, College of Glamour Bard, Death Domain Cleric, Arcane Archer Fighter, Hexblade Warlock and Bladesinging Wizard, with new abilities, summons and cantrips.

It also added full cross-play and cross-platform progression on PC, Mac, Xbox and PS5 through the Larian Network, and Photo Mode, which you open with F9 on PC or by pressing both analog sticks on console.

Patch 7, mods and the hotfixes since

Patch 7 arrived on PC on Sept. 5, 2024, and later on console and Mac, with new evil ending cinematics, Honour Mode improvements, split-screen improvements and official modding support for all platforms. The free Baldur’s Gate 3 Toolkit on Steam lets PC modders build new classes, subclasses, spells, weapons, armor and dice skins.

By August 2025, players had uploaded more than 8,500 mods to mod.io and downloaded mods 265 million times. Since Patch 8, Larian has kept fixing bugs: Hotfix #34 in September 2025 brought a native Steam Deck build, and Hotfix #36, on March 26, 2026, fixed crashes and a frame rate drop when loading saves.

Price

Baldur’s Gate 3 costs $59.99 on Steam, and the Digital Deluxe Edition upgrade $9.99, on Oct. 19, 2026. Larian hasn’t announced a Switch 2 version, as our Baldur’s Gate 3 Switch 2 page explains.

Larian’s next game: Divinity

Larian’s next game is Divinity, a new RPG revealed at The Game Awards in December 2025. Larian hasn’t announced a release date, platforms or price, and says the game tells a completely new story, with some continuity for players of the earlier Divinity games, as our Divinity release date page tracks. Expected price: about $69.99, our estimate.

Larian’s previous RPG, Divinity: Original Sin 2, came to Switch 2 on Dec. 15, 2025, for $49.99, and its Definitive Edition costs $44.99 on Steam, a good way to meet the world before the new game arrives.

Baldur’s Gate 3 remains Larian’s biggest success. At the BAFTA Games Awards in April 2024, it won Best Game, Narrative, Music, the publicly voted Players' Choice award and Performer in a Supporting Role for Andrew Wincott as Raphael, and Larian says it was the first game to win Game of the Year at every major awards show.
