PS5 sales: more than 95 million consoles sold by June 30, 2026, about 4.8 million behind the PS4
Sony had sold more than 95 million PS5 consoles worldwide as of June 30, 2026, about five years and seven months after the November 2020 launch, according to Sony Interactive Entertainment's sales data, which counts consoles shipped to stores. Sony's quarterly figures add up to 95.3 million, against 100.1 million for the PS4 at the same point after its 2013 launch, so the PS5 is about 4.8 million behind. Sony shipped 1.6 million PS5 consoles from April to June 2026, down from 2.5 million a year earlier, and the January to March and April to June 2026 quarters were the two lowest since launch. The best quarter was October to December 2024, at 9.5 million. Expected date for the next figures: around mid-November 2026, our estimate, when Sony reports its July to September results. Sony hasn't confirmed the date.
- PS5

The PS5 has passed 95 million consoles, but its two latest quarters were its slowest. Here’s how many Sony has sold, how that compares with the PS4 and other consoles and when the next numbers arrive.
How many PS5 consoles have been sold?
Sony had sold more than 95 million PS5 consoles worldwide as of June 30, 2026, according to Sony Interactive Entertainment’s sales data. The figures count consoles shipped to stores, including returned and refurbished units, and don’t split the standard PS5, the Digital Edition and the PS5 Pro.
From April to June 2026, Sony shipped 1.6 million PS5 consoles, down from 2.5 million in the same quarter of 2025. That quarter began with Sony’s price increase on April 2, which took the US price of the PS5 up $100, to $649.99, as our PS5 price increase page explains.
PS5 sales by year and quarter
Sony reports by fiscal year, from April to March. The PS5 shipped 7.8 million in its launch year to March 2021, 11.5 million in the next and 19.1 million in the year to March 2023, before a peak of 20.8 million in the year to March 2024. Then came 18.5 million, and 16.0 million in the year to March 2026.

The holiday quarter has been the biggest every year. October to December 2024 was the PS5’s best quarter, at 9.5 million, and October to December 2025 brought 7.9 million. January to March 2026, at 1.5 million, and April to June 2026, at 1.6 million, were the two lowest quarters since launch. By calendar year, Sony’s quarterly figures add up to about 17.2 million in 2025, down from 20.2 million in 2024 and a high of 22.7 million in 2023.
PS5 sales vs PS4
The PS4 launched in November 2013, seven years before the PS5, so the two line up quarter by quarter. Adding up Sony’s figures, the PS4 had shipped about 100.1 million by June 30, 2019, while the PS5 had shipped about 95.3 million by June 30, 2026, about 4.8 million behind.
The gap opened late. The PS5 was only about 0.9 million behind after four fiscal years and 1.4 million after five, but the PS4 shipped 17.8 million in its sixth year, against 16.0 million for the PS5, and 3.2 million from April to June 2019, twice the PS5’s 1.6 million at the same stage. The PS4 went on to sell more than 117 million, according to Sony.
PS5 vs Switch 2 and Xbox sales
Nintendo had sold 23.68 million Switch 2 consoles by June 30, 2026, about 13 months after its June 2025 launch. The PS5 had shipped 17.3 million by Dec. 31, 2021, about 13 and a half months after its own launch, so the Switch 2 is well ahead of the PS5’s early pace. Our Switch 2 sales page has Nintendo’s figures.
Microsoft doesn’t publish unit sales for the Xbox Series X and S, which launched two days before the PS5, in November 2020, so there’s no official number to compare. Our Xbox Series X sales page has what Microsoft does report.
PS5 game sales and PlayStation users
Sony counts PS4 and PS5 games together. As of June 30, 2026, it had sold more than 1.706 billion units, including downloads, games bundled with consoles and PS VR games. The fiscal year to March 2026 brought 317.9 million, the most in any fiscal year since the PS5 launched, and April to June 2026 brought 66.1 million, up slightly from 65.9 million a year earlier.

So while fewer consoles shipped, game sales held steady. Sony also estimates 125 million PlayStation monthly active users as of June 30, 2026.
When Sony releases new PS5 sales numbers
Expected date: around mid-November 2026, when Sony reports its results for July to September. That’s our estimate, not a confirmed date, since Sony has reported that quarter in November in past years. In the same quarter of 2025, Sony shipped 4.0 million PS5 consoles, and the 2026 quarter includes the Sept. 15 launch of Marvel’s Wolverine.

The October to December figures follow in early 2027. In the US, the PS5 costs $649.99, the Digital Edition $599.99 and the PS5 Pro $899.99, as our PS5 price page shows, and our PS5 Black Friday 2026 page tracks the holiday deals.
