PS5 price: $649.99 for the PS5, $599.99 for the Digital Edition and $899.99 for the PS5 Pro in the US

A PS5 costs more in late 2026 than it did at launch. Here’s what each model costs in the US, how the price got there and what’s in the box.

How much is a PS5 in 2026?

Sony’s recommended US prices since April 2, 2026, are $649.99 for the PS5 with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive and $599.99 for the PS5 Digital Edition. The disc model has 1 TB of storage and the Digital Edition 825 GB, according to Sony’s US store. Both are the slimmer design Sony introduced in November 2023, which became the only standard PS5 model once the original ran out.

Sony’s own store, direct.playstation.com, listed the PS5 at $649, the Digital Edition at $599 and the PS5 Pro at $899 on Oct. 17, 2026. Retailers set their own prices and sales.

PS5 Pro price

The PS5 Pro costs $899.99 in the US. It has 2 TB of storage and no disc drive, and the Disc Drive for PS5 Digital Edition and PS5 Pro consoles is a separate purchase that Sony introduced at $79.99. The Pro has climbed the fastest of the three: it launched at $699.99 on Nov. 7, 2024, rose to $749.99 on Aug. 21, 2025, and to $899.99 on April 2, 2026, $200 more in under a year and a half.

PS5 price history

The PS5 came out in the US on Nov. 12, 2020, at $499.99, and the Digital Edition at $399.99. The slimmer model arrived in November 2023 at $499.99 with a disc drive and $449.99 for the Digital Edition, whose disc drive could be added later.

The first US increase came on Aug. 21, 2025, when Sony raised the PS5 to $549.99, the Digital Edition to $499.99 and the PS5 Pro to $749.99, while accessories kept their prices. The second came worldwide on April 2, 2026, and took the three consoles to $649.99, $599.99 and $899.99, with the PlayStation Portal going to $249.99. In total, the PS5 costs $150 more than at launch, and the Digital Edition $200 more.

Why the price went up

Sony pointed to continued pressure from the global economy when it announced the April 2026 increase on March 27, 2026. Its annual report adds that a global surge in demand for memory chips has led to higher prices and supply shortages since the second half of the fiscal year that ended in March 2026.

PS5 prices in the UK, Europe and Japan

The April 2026 increase set the PS5 at £569.99 in the UK, €649.99 in Europe and ¥97,980 in Japan. The Digital Edition costs £519.99, €599.99 and ¥89,980, and the PS5 Pro £789.99, €899.99 and ¥137,980.

Disc or digital?

The $50 gap between the two standard models buys a disc drive. Sony’s US store notes that from January 2028, newly released games on PlayStation are sold in digital format only, after Sony announced on July 1, 2026, that it’s ending physical disc production for new games. Discs for games released before then keep working.

Sony’s store also sells a Marvel’s Wolverine Battle Yellow Limited Edition Bundle with the Digital Edition for $649, and certified refurbished slim consoles at $549 with a disc drive and $499 for the Digital Edition.
