One UI 9 release date: the rollout began Sept. 16, 2026, on the Galaxy S26, and other Galaxy phones follow gradually
One UI 9 is already out. Samsung began the official rollout on Sept. 16, 2026, starting with the Galaxy S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra, after the update debuted on the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Fold8 and Z Flip8 foldables. Samsung says One UI 9 will gradually roll out to other Galaxy devices, but it hasn't published a full list or dates for older models such as the Galaxy S25 series, and timing varies by model, carrier and market. One UI 9 is built on Android 17. The Galaxy S26 FE, on sale from Sept. 4, and the Galaxy Tab S12 series, from Oct. 7, come with it out of the box.

One UI 9 has been rolling out for a month. Here’s when it arrived, which Galaxy phones have it and what Samsung has said about everything else.
When did One UI 9 come out?
On Sept. 16, 2026, Samsung began the official rollout of One UI 9, starting with the Galaxy S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra. The update debuted before that on the eighth-generation foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Fold8 and Z Flip8, which Samsung introduced at Galaxy Unpacked on July 22, 2026.

New devices launch with it too. Samsung says the Galaxy S26 FE, on sale from Sept. 4, 2026, in select markets, is the first phone in the S26 lineup to launch with One UI 9, and the Galaxy Tab S12 series, available from Oct. 7, runs Android 17 with One UI 9.
When do other Galaxy phones get it?
Samsung hasn’t said. Its Sept. 16 announcement says only that One UI 9 is expected to gradually roll out to other Galaxy devices, and Samsung doesn’t give a schedule per model. That means there’s no official date yet for the Galaxy S25 series or older phones, and Samsung notes that availability can vary by country, carrier and device model.

The closest thing to a list is in Samsung’s fine print. It says the One UI 9 Privacy Alerts feature is supported on phones back to the Galaxy S23 series and the Z Fold5 and Z Flip5, and on tablets back to the Galaxy Tab S9 series, but Samsung hasn’t turned that into an update schedule.
What’s new in One UI 9?
My FanCam tracks a selected person in a recorded video and keeps them centered as the scene moves. Now Brief gets generative and editable cards, so you choose what shows up in your daily summary, and a new Warranty and care menu in Settings shows warranty coverage, runs self-diagnostics, estimates repair costs and books service.

Now Nudge suggests the next step in more places, for example pulling up reservation details while you text. Interpreter adds a Thread View, Document Scan handles curved book pages and folded corners, and Voice Recorder summaries use headings and tables. On security, Security Brief puts malware and permission alerts in Now Brief, and Privacy Alerts flags apps that try to use permissions in the background.
The One UI 9 beta
Samsung opened the beta on May 12, 2026, for Galaxy S26 series users in select markets, including the US, the UK, Germany, India, Korea and Poland, through the Samsung Members app. It was built on Android 17 and added new Samsung Notes tools, a more customizable Quick Panel and new accessibility features such as Text Spotlight.
How long will Galaxy phones get updates?
For its newest models, Samsung promises long support. The Galaxy S26 FE gets up to seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates from its global launch, and the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra and Tab S12+ support up to seven OS upgrades. Samsung says the timing of OS upgrades can vary by model, network provider and market.
