Apple released iOS 27 on Monday, Sept. 14, 2026, for iPhone 11 and later, along with iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27 and visionOS 27. Its biggest addition is Siri AI, a new version of Siri that launched as a beta in English. Apple followed with iOS 27.0.1 on Sept. 28, which is still the newest public version as of Oct. 18. The next big update is iOS 27.2, which Apple has been testing with developers and released in a fourth beta on Oct. 13. Expected date for iOS 27.2: about Monday, Nov. 2, 2026. That's our estimate, based on Apple's first big update after each September release, which came on Oct. 24, 2022, Oct. 25, 2023, Oct. 28, 2024, and Nov. 3, 2025, six to seven weeks after launch. Apple hasn't given a date. Separately, Apple added an iOS 27.1 software kit to its developer tools on Oct. 15, eight days before the iPhone Duo launches on Oct. 23, without saying which devices iOS 27.1 is for.

iOS 27 has been out for a month, and the next update is already in testing. Here’s when iOS 27 came out, when we expect iOS 27.2, what iOS 27.1 is and which iPhones get it.
When did iOS 27 come out?
Apple released iOS 27 on Monday, Sept. 14, 2026, together with iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27 and visionOS 27. It came out five days after Apple announced the iPhone 18 Pro on Sept. 9 and four days before the phone went on sale on Sept. 18, as our iPhone 18 release date page explains.

Two weeks later, on Sept. 28, Apple released iOS 27.0.1, a bug-fix update with no published security fixes. As of Oct. 18, that’s still the newest version for the public. Apple also keeps updating iOS 26 for people who haven’t upgraded, most recently with iOS 26.7.1 on Sept. 28.
When is iOS 27.2 coming out?
Apple hasn’t said. Expected date: about Monday, Nov. 2, 2026. That’s our estimate, not an official date. Apple released a fourth developer beta of iOS 27.2 on Oct. 13, and its first big update after each September launch arrived on Oct. 24, 2022, Oct. 25, 2023, Oct. 28, 2024, and Nov. 3, 2025, six to seven weeks after the release in September. Seven weeks after Sept. 14 is Nov. 2.
Before a public update, Apple usually releases a final test version called the release candidate. Apple also said Siri AI would add French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish in October, but hasn’t said which update brings them.
What is iOS 27.1?
On Oct. 15, Apple released Xcode 27.1, its app-making software, with a software kit for iOS 27.1 and for the other platforms' version 27, including iPadOS 27 rather than 27.1. Apple’s notes mention features specific to iOS 27.1 but don’t say which devices they’re for.
The timing lines up with the iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable iPhone, which goes on sale on Friday, Oct. 23. Apple hasn’t confirmed that the iPhone Duo ships with iOS 27.1. Our iPhone Duo release date and price page has the launch details.
Which iPhones get iOS 27?
Apple lists iOS 27 for iPhone 11 and later, the same iPhones that got iOS 26, so every iPhone from the iPhone 11 onward can run it, including the iPhone Air and the iPhone Duo. iPadOS 27 drops five iPads that ran iPadOS 26: the third-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro, the first-generation 11-inch iPad Pro, the third-generation iPad Air, the eighth-generation iPad and the fifth-generation iPad mini.

Siri AI and Apple’s other new intelligence features need newer hardware: the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16 or later, iPhone Air or iPhone Duo. Apple says Siri AI isn’t available initially on iPhones in the EU or in China, and it isn’t available to users under 13.
What’s new in iOS 27
Siri AI is the headline feature: a more conversational Siri that understands personal context from messages, emails and photos, answers questions about what’s on screen and has its own app that syncs conversations across Apple devices. Siri also works inside the Camera app through a new Siri mode.

Apple says apps launch up to 30% faster on iPhone, photos load up to 70% faster after they’re taken and AirDrop transfers are up to 80% faster. Parents get a redesigned Screen Time with daily time limits for Games, Entertainment and Social Media apps, and Safari can alert users when a website changes, such as a product coming back in stock. A new slider in Settings also lets users adjust Liquid Glass from clear to fully tinted.
