iOS 27.2 release date: Apple's release candidate has been out since Oct. 19, and we expect the update on Monday, Oct. 26

Apple’s last test build of iOS 27.2 is out, and the public release is about a week away. Here’s when we expect iOS 27.2, what’s in it, what’s missing and which iPhones get it.

When is iOS 27.2 coming out?

Expected date: Monday, Oct. 26, 2026. That’s our estimate, not an official date. Apple released the iOS 27.2 release candidate, build 24B115, to developers on Monday, Oct. 19, together with release candidates of iPadOS 27.2, macOS 27.2, watchOS 27.2, tvOS 27.2 and visionOS 27.2 and Xcode 27.2. The fourth beta came out on Oct. 13, six days earlier.

A release candidate is the build Apple plans to ship. In each of the last four years, Apple’s first big update after the September release reached the public six to eight days after its release candidate, and six to eight days after Oct. 19 is Oct. 25 to 27. Apple’s recent iOS updates arrived at about 10 a.m. PT, which is 1 p.m. ET. Our iOS 27 release date page has the full history of Apple’s fall updates.

What’s new in iOS 27.2

The biggest change in Apple’s release notes is for apps that track users in the EU. App Tracking Transparency gets an alternative, expanded prompt with more explanation, and apps can ask again once a year. The new prompt is required in France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Romania.

The notes also cover the Health app’s lab features. Apple tells anyone with an upcoming Quest Diagnostics lab appointment to wait for the results before updating, and lab results stay under Browse, then Lab Results. In Shortcuts, the Describe a Shortcut feature, which Apple introduced with iOS 27, has a known issue in the release candidate.

Why the new Health app isn’t in iOS 27.2

The redesigned Health app appeared in an earlier iOS 27.2 beta, but Apple’s release notes say it was there for testing only and is missing from the release candidate. Testers' Health data from that beta stays on the iPhone and shows up in Settings, and Apple says the redesign returns in an upcoming iOS beta. That puts the new Health app in a later update than iOS 27.2.

Which iPhones get iOS 27.2?

Every iPhone that runs iOS 27: the iPhone 11 and later, including the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone Duo. Siri AI, which launched as a beta in English with iOS 27 on Sept. 14, needs an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16 or later, iPhone Air or iPhone Duo. Apple said in September that Siri AI support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish comes in October.

The newest version for the public is iOS 27.0.1, from Sept. 28. When iOS 27.2 arrives, it shows up under Settings, General, Software Update.

What about iOS 27.1?

Apple added an iOS 27.1 software kit to its Xcode 27.1 developer tools on Oct. 15, and the iOS 27.2 release notes refer to changes “on iOS 27.1 and later.” Apple hasn’t released iOS 27.1 to the public or said which devices it’s for. The iPhone Duo goes on sale on Friday, Oct. 23, three days before our expected date for iOS 27.2.
