Splinter Cell remake release date: Ubisoft still hasn't set one, nearly five years after the reveal
The Splinter Cell remake doesn't have a release date. Ubisoft Toronto announced on Dec. 15, 2021, that it was rebuilding the original 2002 Splinter Cell from the ground up in Ubisoft's Snowdrop engine, and as of Oct. 16, 2026, Ubisoft hasn't named a window, platforms or a price, or shown any footage. The game is still in development, though. It wasn't among the six games Ubisoft cancelled in its January 2026 reset, which included the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, and Ubisoft Toronto posted new Splinter Cell Remake jobs in August, September and October 2026.

The Splinter Cell remake is real, but it still has no date. Ubisoft announced it almost five years ago, hasn’t shown it since and keeps hiring for it. Here’s what’s official.
When is the Splinter Cell remake coming out?
Ubisoft hasn’t said. There’s no release date, no window, no platforms and no price, and Ubisoft hasn’t released a single screenshot or trailer of the remake.

The project was announced on Dec. 15, 2021, when Ubisoft Toronto said it would lead development on a remake of the original Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, rebuilt from the ground up in Ubisoft’s own Snowdrop engine. At the time, the team said it was in the very earliest stages of development.
The clearest signs of progress since then are job listings. Ubisoft Toronto posted a VFX artist role for the Splinter Cell Remake on Aug. 26, 2026, a producer role on Sept. 24 and a team lead level designer on Oct. 13. The producer covers the game’s object bank and work with outsourcing companies, and the level design lead supports the project lead on quality and on-time delivery. The level design listing also asks for experience with third-person games built around slower-paced, investigative play. None of the listings mentions a release year.
What Ubisoft Toronto has said about the remake
The studio explained its plans in the 2021 announcement. Producer Matt West said it had to be a remake rather than a remaster: the original was revolutionary when it came out 19 years earlier, but players expect more today. The team plans to update the visuals and some design elements, keep the spirit of the early games and keep the structure linear like the original games, not open world.

Creative director Chris Auty summed up the series' ideal as “be a ghost.” That means watching a situation, making a plan, using gadgets and getting through without anyone realizing you were there. Technical producer Peter Handrinos said the team would rethink light and shadow, animation, enemy AI and audio for a game that skipped an entire console generation.
Snowdrop also runs Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Star Wars Outlaws, and Ubisoft chose it partly for the dynamic lighting and shadows that Splinter Cell is known for. The studio’s link to the series goes back to its start. Splinter Cell: Blacklist, released in 2013, was Ubisoft Toronto’s first lead project, and it’s still the most recent new Splinter Cell game.
Where the remake stands after Ubisoft’s 2026 reset
On Jan. 21, 2026, Ubisoft announced a major reset of its organization and its lineup. It cancelled six games, including the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, four unannounced games and a mobile title, and it gave seven other games more development time without naming them. It also closed its Halifax and Stockholm studios.
Splinter Cell wasn’t on the cancelled list. Ubisoft now splits its brands into five creative houses, and Splinter Cell sits in the one built around shooters, alongside The Division and Ghost Recon. When Ubisoft cut jobs at the Toronto studio in early 2026, it said the studio continues to develop its Splinter Cell game while also helping on Rainbow Six. The three new listings show the team has been hiring again since the summer.
How to play Splinter Cell now
Most of the series is on Steam. Splinter Cell, Chaos Theory, Double Agent and Conviction cost $9.99 each, and Blacklist costs $19.99. Pandora Tomorrow, the second game, came back to Steam as a re-release on Oct. 14, 2025, also for $9.99.
That was the same day Netflix premiered Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, an eight-episode animated series. Liev Schreiber voices Sam Fisher, drawn back into action after a long absence when a wounded young operative asks for help, and the series comes from Derek Kolstad, the writer behind John Wick. It’s streaming on Netflix worldwide.
Rumors and what could come next
Some unofficial reports have pointed to a 2027 release. Ubisoft hasn’t confirmed that or any other window, and it hasn’t said which platforms the remake is for.
There’s no event where Ubisoft has promised Splinter Cell news. The biggest showcase left this year is The Game Awards on Dec. 10, covered on our Game Awards 2026 page. If the remake does land in 2027, it would join the games on our list of upcoming games in 2027.
This page is updated as soon as Ubisoft announces a release date, platforms or a first trailer for the Splinter Cell remake.
