Dying Light 3 release date: Techland hasn't announced the next game, and The Beast is still getting updates

Dying Light: The Beast just turned 1, and fans are asking what comes next. Here’s what Techland has actually said.

When does Dying Light 3 come out?

There’s no release date, because Techland hasn’t announced Dying Light 3. It hasn’t revealed a title, a setting, platforms or a trailer, and dates shared online aren’t official.

What Techland has done is ask. On May 22, 2026, it opened a community survey on the future of Dying Light, asking players what’s at the top of their wishlist, which mechanics need work and what they expect from the franchise. Is The Beast the third Dying Light game?

Not by name. Techland revealed Dying Light: The Beast at Gamescom Opening Night Live on Aug. 20, 2024, as a standalone adventure, and presented it to fans who had been waiting for the second story expansion for Dying Light 2 Stay Human. It brought back Kyle Crane, the hero of the first game, and came out on Sept. 18, 2025, on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with PS5 Pro support.

Techland calls The Beast the most recent chapter of the series, and it keeps adding to it. The free Restored Land update on March 26, 2026, brought a harder survival mode in which killed zombies and looted items don’t come back, plus an optional One Life setting that wipes the save after a single death. The anniversary update, version 1.7, followed on Sept. 17, 2026. The Beast is $59.99 on Steam.

Is Dying Light 3 set in Japan?

Techland hasn’t announced a setting for its next game. Japan comes up often in searches, but claims that the next Dying Light takes place there haven’t been confirmed by Techland. So far, each game has picked a new place: the first is set in the city of Harran, Dying Light 2 Stay Human in Villedor, and The Beast in the valley of Castor Woods.

How long between Dying Light games

The first Dying Light came out in January 2015, and Dying Light 2 Stay Human in February 2022. By simple arithmetic, that’s about seven years, and The Beast followed about three and a half years later. Techland hasn’t given any timing for the next game.

The series is big enough to keep going. Techland said on Feb. 12, 2026, that more than 50 million people have played Dying Light since 2015. When Tencent agreed to become Techland’s majority shareholder in July 2023, CEO Paweł Marchewka said the goal was to turn Dying Light into the ultimate zombie game, with multiple new adventures, while Techland keeps full ownership of its games.

What Techland is doing now

Dying Light 2 Stay Human is still getting updates. The Breach, added on June 10, 2026, turned it into a platform for community-made maps and mods, and new chapters have followed through Sept. 3, 2026. In October 2026, Techland announced personalized spatial audio for both Dying Light 2 and The Beast through a partnership with Embody, and Marchewka answered fan questions in a Discord session on Oct. 14, 2026.

Waiting on another zombie sequel? Days Gone 2 hasn’t been announced either.
