Steam Frame price and release date: $1,059, out since Sept. 14, but you may wait until 2027 to order

Valve's Steam Frame wireless VR headset has been on sale since Sept. 14, 2026. It costs $1,059 with 256GB of storage and $1,299 with 1TB, and comes with controllers, a wireless adapter and Half-Life: Alyx. You cannot simply buy one, though: Valve sells it through a reservation queue, and reservation holders can now see whether their order email arrives by December or in 2027. On Oct. 13, Valve also ended production of its previous headset, Valve Index.

The Steam Frame is out, and it costs $1,059. Valve launched its wireless VR headset on Sept. 14, 2026, at $1,059 for 256GB and $1,299 for 1TB. The catch is availability. Valve sells it only through a reservation queue, and some people holding a reservation won’t get an order email until 2027. Meanwhile, on Oct. 13, Valve stopped producing Valve Index and cut the price of its last units by 20%.

Steam Frame price in every region

Valve ships directly to the US, Canada, the UK, the EU and Australia. In Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong, Steam Frame is sold through KOMODO, Valve’s authorized distributor, with its own prices; South Korea comes later.

Accessories are only offered at checkout, once you have an order email: a 45W power supply for $29, an Ergonomic Accessories Kit for $59 (two controller hand straps, a top strap and an extended light blocker) and an Accessory Replacement Kit for $49 (face gasket, head cushion and standard light blocker).

How to get a Steam Frame: the reservation queue

Valve used the same system as for Steam Machine, to make the launch fairer and limit resellers. Signups ran from Sept. 14 to Sept. 17 at 10 a.m. Pacific, with one per household and only for Steam accounts that had made a purchase before April 27, 2026. Valve then shuffled each list at random, separately for each model and for each region: North America, the UK and EU, and Australia.

If you landed in the reservation queue, a unit is reserved in your name. When it is ready, you get an email and have 72 hours to buy before Valve moves on to the next person. Since Oct. 9, the Steam Frame page shows reservation holders whether that email will come by December or in 2027, and Valve says the 2027 group will get more precise timing by January.

If you landed on the waitlist, or sign up now, you wait at the back of your region’s list. Valve only starts emailing the waitlist once a region’s reservation queue runs out, so nobody on the waitlist jumps ahead of someone with a reservation.

Steam Frame specs

The Steam Frame is a PC in its own right: it runs SteamOS and can play more than 100 Steam Frame Standalone Verified games, VR and flat, without a computer. Valve built it mainly as a streaming-first headset, though. Its foveated streaming uses eye tracking to send the sharpest part of the image only where you are looking, which Valve says typically improves image quality and effective bandwidth more than tenfold, for every VR game and with no work from developers. One radio streams from your PC through the included 6GHz adapter while the other stays on your home Wi-Fi.

Since launch, Valve’s updates have improved battery life by up to 12%, added an option to track only your dominant eye and fixed streaming errors. On Oct. 9 it released CAD files and electrical interface details for the headset for non-commercial use, so owners can design their own accessories. The front expansion port offers a camera interface or a single PCIe Gen 4 lane.

Valve Index is discontinued

On Oct. 13, Valve said Valve Index is no longer being produced. What is left is on sale on Steam at new prices while supplies last, and existing headsets remain supported on Steam and SteamVR.

Valve has not announced an OLED version of the Steam Frame or any other new headset.

What else Valve sells

For comparison, Steam Machine costs $1,049 with 512GB and $1,349 with 2TB on Steam, and the Steam Controller costs $99. The Steam Deck OLED went up to $789 (512GB) and $949 (1TB) on May 27, which Valve blamed on rising memory and storage costs. The same memory crunch has pushed console prices higher: see our pages on the PS6 and PS5 prices, the next Xbox and the Switch 2 price.

This page is updated as soon as Valve changes Steam Frame prices, shares new reservation timing or announces new hardware.
