Platforms and crossplay
At 1.0 you can buy Valheim on Steam for Windows, Linux and Mac, in the Mac App Store, in the Microsoft Store for Windows, and on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2 through each console’s store. Every version supports crossplay, so you can play with friends on any platform.

Saves don’t follow you everywhere, though. Xbox players can open their saves on PC only if they launch the Microsoft Store version; there’s no cross-platform save sync beyond that. The download is about 4.3GiB on most platforms, about 3GiB on Xbox One and about 6.5GiB for the Mac App Store and Microsoft Store versions.
Price: $29.99 at 1.0
Iron Gate set the full-release price at $29.99, saying the game now offers a full experience rather than early access, and that prices may differ by region. Steam and the Microsoft Store both list it at $29.99 in the US. If you bought Valheim during early access, you don’t pay again: your copy updates to 1.0.
Valheim isn’t in the Game Pass catalog right now, so on Xbox you’ll need to buy it.
What’s new in Valheim 1.0: the Deep North
The big addition is the Deep North, a frozen biome where you have to clear snow before you can build and watch your step on frozen seas and ponds. The giant Jotun have begun invading the world, the new boss is Kall Fimbulbringer, and a grappling hook helps you climb. If you travel to the outer edges of the map, you can also find alternate versions of earlier biomes.

Old saves, achievements and mods
Your old saves still work, and existing worlds get the new content. But new biome content only generates properly in areas you haven’t explored yet, so Iron Gate recommends starting a fresh world. Achievements only track progress from the moment you install 1.0, so you’ll have to beat bosses again to earn them. Most cheat commands lock that character and world out of achievements for good.
Valheim still has no official mod support. Iron Gate says it can’t guarantee that PC mods work with 1.0, there’s no Steam Workshop, and there are no mods on consoles.
On Sept. 30, 2026, Iron Gate promised more content updates but didn’t say what they’ll include, and it’s still fixing bugs and tuning balance. Its developer updates are no longer monthly; the studio will post when it has news. Outside the game, Iron Gate has teased Valheim concerts in Stockholm and Paris and a Valheim comic book, both for next year.
