Starfield on PS5: out since April 7, 2026, with PS5 Pro modes, mods and two editions

Starfield finally reached PlayStation in April, and it arrived with the game’s biggest update. Here’s what you get on PS5.

When did Starfield come out on PS5?

On April 7, 2026. Starfield first launched on Xbox Series X and S and PC in September 2023, and Bethesda brought it to PS5 on the same day as Free Lanes, its biggest free update yet, and Terran Armada, a new story DLC. Bethesda said in November 2024 that more than 15 million players had played the game.

Which editions are there?

There are three ways to buy it on PS5. The Standard Edition has the base game, on disc or as a download. The Premium Edition, also physical or digital, adds the Terran Armada and Shattered Space story DLCs, 1,000 Creation Credits, the Constellation Skin Pack and the digital artbook and soundtrack. The Premium Edition Upgrade is digital only and adds the same extras to the standard game.

Terran Armada also sells on its own for $9.99.

How does it run on PS5 Pro?

Bethesda enhanced Starfield for PS5 Pro with two modes: a Visual mode at 4K and 30 fps, and a Performance mode with improved visuals at 60 fps.

The game also uses the DualSense controller. The adaptive triggers change from weapon to weapon, including your ship’s weapons, the light bar shows your health and your ship’s integrity, the touchpad switches between first- and third-person views or opens the map and hand scanner, and audio logs and ship intercoms play through the controller’s speaker.

Does it have mods and the old updates?

Yes. The PS5 version includes every major update released before it, including clearer surface maps, the REV-8 land vehicle and Creations, Bethesda’s system for mods and add-ons. The Trackers Alliance bounty series, seven self-contained bounty stories, is sold through the Creations menu.

Free Lanes lets you fly freely between planets within a star system, adds more space encounters and a new resource for gear and ship customization, and lets you carry favorite gear into New Game Plus. Bethesda has kept patching the game on all platforms since, with updates on May 14 and June 11, 2026.

What is Terran Armada?

It’s a story DLC about an advanced military force, made up mostly of robot soldiers, formed by members of the United Colonies and Freestar Collective who vanished during the Colony War and now call themselves the true children of Earth. You fight back through a new Incursion system and meet a new companion, Delta, a reprogrammed Terran Armada robot.
