What is Resident Evil Veronica?
It’s a remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica, first released in 2000. Capcom says the new version keeps the appeal of the original while adding modernized gameplay, a reimagined story and high-quality graphics made with its own RE Engine, and that it’s being made “to satisfy both fans of the series and newcomers alike.”
The story starts three months after the biological disaster in Raccoon City. Claire Redfield, who survived it with Leon S. Kennedy and Sherry Birkin, travels to France to search for Claire’s brother, Chris Redfield. Instead of finding Chris, Claire is captured by the Umbrella special forces unit behind the incident and taken to Rockfort Island, which another biological disaster has turned into a nightmare. Capcom hasn’t said whether you’ll also play as Chris, as in the original, or which other characters return.
Where does it fit in Capcom’s plans?
Veronica continues a run of remakes: Resident Evil 2 came out in January 2019, Resident Evil 3 in April 2020 and Resident Evil 4 in March 2023. Capcom has also been bringing those remakes to new consoles, and Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition came out on Switch 2 on Oct. 16, 2026. Capcom says the series has sold more than 201 million units since 1996, as of March 31, 2026.
