Portal 3 release date: Valve hasn't announced it, 15 years after Portal 2

Portal 2 is 15 years old, and fans still ask whether Portal 3 is coming. Here’s what Valve has actually released and announced.
When does Portal 3 come out?
There’s no release date, because Valve hasn’t announced Portal 3. It hasn’t revealed a title, a trailer or a platform, and when we checked on Oct. 17, 2026, Steam had no Portal 3 page or wishlist. Dates and claims shared online about a sequel in development haven’t been confirmed by Valve.
Portal 2 came out in April 2011, so by simple arithmetic, the series has gone 15 years without a new main game. Valve has had longer gaps: the story of Half-Life 3 has been on hold since 2007.
What Valve has made in the Portal world since
Valve hasn’t left Aperture Science completely. Aperture Desk Job, a free short game set in the Portal universe, came out on March 1, 2022, as a showcase for the Steam Deck. The first Portal also got a free ray-traced remaster, Portal with RTX, from NVIDIA’s Lightspeed Studios on Dec. 8, 2022, for anyone who owns the original on PC.
Neither is a new Portal story. The first Portal came out on Oct. 10, 2007, as part of The Orange Box, and Portal 2 added a full single-player campaign and a two-player co-op mode.
What Valve is doing instead
