Left 4 Dead 3 release date: not announced, nearly 17 years after Left 4 Dead 2

Left 4 Dead 3 has no release date, because Valve hasn't announced it. There's no trailer, no Steam store page and no platform. Left 4 Dead came out on Nov. 17, 2008, and Left 4 Dead 2 followed on Nov. 16, 2009, according to Steam. Nearly 17 years later, Left 4 Dead 2 is still Valve's latest game in the series, and it still gets patches: the most recent arrived on June 30, 2026.

Valve hasn’t announced Left 4 Dead 3, and the last new game in the series is from 2009. Here’s what’s official and where the series stands.

Is Left 4 Dead 3 announced?

No. Valve hasn’t announced Left 4 Dead 3. There’s no trailer, no Steam store page, no release date and no platform.

The series moved fast at first. Left 4 Dead came out on Nov. 17, 2008, and Left 4 Dead 2 followed on Nov. 16, 2009, a year later, according to Steam. Nothing new has followed in the nearly 17 years since.

Left 4 Dead 2 is still getting updates

Left 4 Dead 2 hasn’t been abandoned. On Sept. 24, 2020, Valve released The Last Stand, a large update made entirely by the Left 4 Dead community. It added more than twenty new Survival arenas, four Scavenge arenas and a campaign based on The Lighthouse map.

The patches haven’t stopped. Valve fixed several crashes and exploits on June 26, 2026, and released a revised Linux fix with the latest security patches on June 30, 2026. That’s maintenance, not a sign of a sequel.

What Valve is doing instead

Valve’s big launches in 2026 have been hardware: the Steam Controller on May 4, the Steam Machine on June 22 and the Steam Frame VR headset on Sept. 14. It hasn’t announced a new Left 4 Dead for any of them, and it hasn’t announced Half-Life 3 either.

Back 4 Blood isn’t Left 4 Dead 3

Back 4 Blood often comes up in the same searches. It’s a co-op zombie shooter from Turtle Rock Studios, which its Steam page calls the creators of the Left 4 Dead series, and Warner Bros. Games released it on Oct. 12, 2021. It isn’t a Valve game, and it isn’t part of the Left 4 Dead series.

Where to play Left 4 Dead now

Both games are on Steam for $9.99 each. Left 4 Dead 2 includes The Last Stand and every update since.
