Physint release date: no date yet, but Xbox will publish Hideo Kojima's spy game
Physint doesn't have a release date. Kojima Productions and Xbox haven't announced a date, a release year or platforms for Hideo Kojima's action-espionage game. On Sept. 9, 2026, Xbox confirmed it will publish Physint, and on Sept. 17, 2026, Kojima Productions named Bill Skarsgård as the lead. The game was first announced in January 2024 in partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment.
Hideo Kojima’s spy game has a new publisher and a star, but still no date. Here’s what’s official about Physint’s release, platforms and cast.
When does Physint come out?
Kojima Productions hasn’t announced a release date, and neither has Xbox. There’s no year and no release window. When Xbox confirmed its deal on Sept. 9, 2026, it said it would share more as development progresses.
The clearest timing clue goes back to the first announcement on Jan. 31, 2024. Hideo Kojima said then that “production will begin in earnest after Death Stranding 2.” Death Stranding 2: On the Beach came out on PS5 on June 26, 2025, and on PC on March 19, 2026, so by that plan, full production wouldn’t have started before mid-2025.
Is Physint coming to PS5 or Xbox?
Neither platform is confirmed. Physint was first revealed during a PlayStation State of Play in January 2024, in partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment, and the visual shown at the studio’s 10th anniversary event in September 2025 still carried the PlayStation logo.
That changed on Sept. 9, 2026, when Xbox announced it will publish Physint. Kojima Productions called Xbox its new partner for the game, and the two companies also plan to work together on film and television. Neither announcement named platforms or explained the switch, so a PS5 version isn’t ruled in or out.
Who’s in the Physint cast?
On Sept. 17, 2026, at the end of the Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2026 broadcast, Kojima Productions confirmed Bill Skarsgård in the lead role. Skarsgård is best known for playing Pennywise in It and It: Chapter Two, and Kojima said costume fittings, scans and camera tests with Skarsgård and Charlee Fraser earlier in 2026 gave the team confidence in the project.
The rest of the announced cast was revealed at the Beyond the Strand event in Tokyo on Sept. 23, 2025: Charlee Fraser, Don Lee and Minami Hamabe. Kojima has promised more casting news later.
What is Physint?
Physint is an action-espionage game and the third original game series from Kojima Productions. Hideo Kojima has described it as the culmination of a 40-year career as a game creator. When it was announced, the studio said it would blur the line between film and games, with near life-like graphics and a big-name cast.
It’s one of two Kojima games now tied to Xbox. The other, OD, is being made with Xbox Game Studios, and the Tokyo Game Show 2026 broadcast showed behind-the-scenes footage of a performance capture session for it. OD doesn’t have a release date either. For the studio’s other series, see where things stand on Death Stranding 3.
This page is updated as soon as Kojima Productions or Xbox announces a release date or platforms for Physint.
