Death Stranding 3 release date: not announced, and Kojima's next games are OD and Physint

There’s no Death Stranding 3 on the calendar, but there’s plenty of Death Stranding and Kojima news. Here’s where the series stands and what the studio has announced instead.

Is Death Stranding 3 announced?

No. Kojima Productions hasn’t announced Death Stranding 3, so there’s no title, release date, trailer or platform list.

The series isn’t done, though. Kojima Productions is still updating Death Stranding 2, and the Death Stranding world is moving into film and animation, covered below. For now, the studio’s next two games are new projects, not sequels.

Death Stranding 2 is the latest game

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach came out on PS5 on June 26, 2025, and on PC on March 19, 2026, through Steam and the Epic Games Store. It costs $69.99 on Steam, where it’s published by PlayStation Publishing and Kojima Productions, with Nixxes Software on the PC version.

The PC version added a punishing new challenge mode called “to the wilder,” and the update also brought a VR training area and new Photo Mode additions, which Kojima Productions said reached PS5 players at the same time. If you never played the first game, Death Stranding Director’s Cut is $39.99 on Steam.

What Kojima Productions is making next

The studio has two games in the works. OD is being made with Xbox Game Studios, and a new teaser, OD - KNOCK, premiered at the studio’s 10th anniversary event, Beyond the Strand, on Sept. 23, 2025.

Physint is the studio’s third original game, an action-espionage project that Hideo Kojima has described as the culmination of a 40-year career. Kojima Productions recently confirmed Xbox as its new publishing partner, and on Sept. 17, 2026, it named Bill Skarsgård as the lead. The cast also includes Charlee Fraser, Don Lee and Minami Hamabe. Neither OD nor Physint has a release date.

At the same event, the studio laid out a long-range plan in phases: Phase 1 from 2015 to 2019, Phase 2 from 2019 to 2025, with 2030 in parentheses, and Phase 3 from 2030 to 2035. It didn’t attach any specific game to those dates.

Death Stranding beyond games

The series is growing in other directions. A24 is making a live-action Death Stranding film directed by Michael Sarnoski. Death Stranding Mosquito (working title) is an animated film directed by Hiroshi Miyamoto and written by Aaron Guzikowski, and Death Stranding Isolations (working title) is an animated series from E&H production, directed by Takayuki Sano with character designs by Ilya Kuvshinov.
