The Modern Warfare 4 campaign has 16 missions, according to Activision. They take you across the Korean Peninsula, Paris, New York and Mumbai, as Private Park Hyun Jun fights a North Korean invasion of South Korea and Captain Price, now an outlaw, hunts the villain known as the Archer. Finishing missions unlocks 16 rewards for Multiplayer and DMZ, including eight Base Operators. Anyone who pre-ordered a digital edition can play the whole campaign since Oct. 16, a week before the game launches on Oct. 23, 2026.

Modern Warfare 4’s story is 16 missions long, and you can already play all of it with a digital pre-order. Here’s what the campaign covers and what it unlocks.
How many missions are in the MW4 campaign?
Sixteen, according to Activision’s post of Oct. 16, 2026. They take you through trench warfare in Korea, close-quarters combat in New York, high-speed chases through Paris, SAS night raids in Mumbai and city-wide assaults to win back occupied territory.
You fight as Private Park Hyun Jun, a young South Korean soldier seeing live combat for the first time, after North Korea launches a full-scale invasion of South Korea. Park’s squad of US and South Korean marines fights on the ground and in an amphibious assault.
Who else is in the story?
Captain Price, now an outlaw, runs an off-the-books hunt outside the system Price once served. That hunt leads to an uneasy alliance with Valeria Garza, leader of the Las Almas Cartel, and puts Price on the trail of a weapon of war that could overturn the world order in the hands of the Archer, the campaign’s villain. CIA Station Chief Kate Laswell stays in touch with Price.
Activision hasn’t named the cast on its official pages, and it hasn’t given a play time for the campaign. It also hasn’t announced campaign co-op: its Oct. 16 post suggests playing the story on your own, then teaming up with friends in DMZ.
What does the campaign unlock?
Sixteen rewards, earned in order as you progress, and all of them carry over to Multiplayer and DMZ when the full game launches. Activision lists them as the Cho Base Operator, the No More Rules calling card, a Double XP token, the Dallas Base Operator, the Ready Line loading screen, the Luca Base Operator, the Gone Dark emblem, the Oh-Ji Base Operator, a Double XP token, the Kal Base Operator, a Double Weapon XP token, the Dunn Base Operator, a Double Weapon XP token, the West Base Operator, a Double XP token and, last, the Park Base Operator.
That’s eight Base Operators in all, plus three Double XP tokens and two Double Weapon XP tokens to spend once multiplayer opens.
How can you play it before launch?
With a digital pre-order. Campaign Early Access started on Oct. 16, 2026, and gives the entire campaign to anyone who pre-ordered or pre-purchased the Standard Digital Edition or Vault Edition on Xbox Series X and S, Xbox on PC, PS5, Battle.net, Steam or Nintendo Switch 2. It runs right up to the full launch on Oct. 23. Physical pre-orders don’t include it.
