When does Modern Warfare 4 come out on Switch 2?
On Oct. 23, 2026, the same day as on PS5, Xbox Series X and S and PC. Nintendo announced the Switch 2 version on May 28, 2026, calling it the series' return to the Nintendo platform, and Switch 2 pre-orders opened on Aug. 26.
If you pre-ordered digitally, you don’t have to wait for launch. Activision confirmed that Campaign Early Access went live on Oct. 16 on every platform, Switch 2 included, with all 16 missions, and DMZ opens early on Oct. 20. How much is it, and is there a physical copy?
The Standard Edition costs $69.99 on the Nintendo eShop in the US, the same as on the other platforms. The Vault Edition costs $99.99, and Standard digital owners can upgrade to it for $30. If you own and played a Call of Duty released since 2019, Activision takes 10% off the Vault Edition until Oct. 23.
Activision hasn’t announced a physical Switch 2 version. Its editions page lists the disc only for PS5 and Xbox Series X, and the Vault Edition is digital only everywhere. Physical copies also don’t include early access, which is tied to digital pre-orders.
What’s different on Switch 2?
Nintendo says Multiplayer on Switch 2 has cross-play, cross-progression and optional Joy-Con 2 mouse controls. Signing in with an Activision account keeps the same profile if you play on more than one platform. GameChat works too, and its video features need a compatible USB camera.
Online features need a Nintendo Switch Online membership, and Activision says Multiplayer and DMZ need a continuous connection because the game streams textures. Activision lists split-screen multiplayer only for PS5 and Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo’s announcements don’t give frame rate or resolution targets for Switch 2.
Did the open beta carry over?
Partly. The Switch 2 open beta ran from Aug. 28 at 10 a.m. PT to Sept. 1 at 10 a.m. PT, with Multiplayer modes, Ground War and a playable Campaign mission. Players who signed in with an Activision account keep eligible cosmetic rewards, such as the Dread Tiger Operator skin for Reece at level 20, but player level, weapon unlocks and other beta progress don’t carry over.
