Does Modern Warfare 4 have Zombies? The game launches without it, and DMZ is the third mode
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches without a Zombies mode on Friday, Oct. 23, 2026. Activision's launch lineup is three modes, Campaign, Multiplayer and DMZ, as it put it in the May 28 reveal, and Activision hasn't announced Zombies for the game in any form, round-based or open world. DMZ, the extraction mode, takes the slot Zombies held in Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7. The closest thing to zombies in MW4 is Infected, which returns to Multiplayer on Friday, Oct. 30, a day after the new Halloween mode Possession. For round-based Zombies, Black Ops 7 has six maps, the last of them Rex Infernus.

Does Modern Warfare 4 have Zombies?
Modern Warfare 4 launches on Friday, Oct. 23, 2026, with three modes: Campaign, Multiplayer and DMZ. That’s the lineup Activision announced in its May 28 reveal, and its Oct. 21 list of launch maps and modes doesn’t add Zombies either. Activision hasn’t announced a Zombies mode of any kind for the game, round-based or open world.
That breaks a streak. Modern Warfare III had open-world Zombies, and Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 brought back round-based maps. The last Call of Duty without Zombies was Modern Warfare II in 2022, which is also where DMZ started.
DMZ takes the third spot
DMZ is Modern Warfare 4’s extraction mode, and it fills the place Zombies had in the last three games. You drop into Hajin, an Exclusion Zone on the Korean Peninsula, loot, complete Orders and try to exfil alive. Unlike Zombies, it mixes PvE and PvP: AI patrols of a secretive North Korean faction share the map with rival players, and you can deploy solo or with a squad. DMZ needs a constant internet connection, as Multiplayer does, and Vault Edition owners start with three Active Duty Operator slots instead of two.
Progression runs to level 70, with Operator Prestige on top, and weapons level up in DMZ and Multiplayer alike. DMZ Early Access opened on Oct. 20 for digital pre-orders, and DMZ opens to every owner with the full game. Our DMZ early access page explains the base and exfil.
Possession and Infected: the closest thing to zombies
Multiplayer gets two Halloween modes before Season 1, per Infinity Ward’s roadmap. The new Possession arrives on Thursday, Oct. 29, and Activision’s Oct. 21 maps and modes post describes it: every elimination moves you into the enemy’s place and Loadout. Infected returns on Friday, Oct. 30. It’s Call of Duty’s classic party mode: one random player starts as the infected, every survivor taken down joins the infected side, and the survivors hold out as long as they can.

Where to play Zombies: Black Ops 7
Round-based Zombies lives on in Black Ops 7. It has six round-based maps, from Ashes of the Damned at launch on Nov. 14, 2025, to Rex Infernus on Aug. 20, 2026, which Activision calls the game’s final round-based map, plus eight smaller Survival maps. Will Zombies come to Modern Warfare 4?
Activision hasn’t confirmed any Zombies plans for Modern Warfare 4. Infinity Ward’s roadmap runs through Season 1 on Friday, Nov. 6, with Shipment, Possession and Infected along the way, and no Zombies.
