Mario Kart World DLC: where paid DLC stands, what 13 free updates added and what a Booster Course Pass would cost
Mario Kart World has no paid DLC, and Nintendo hasn't announced one or a Booster Course Pass since the game launched with the Switch 2 on June 5, 2025. Every addition has come in 13 free updates. The latest, Ver. 1.8.0 on Sept. 9, 2026, added 10 Super Mario Kart courses, the Propeller Rally and Turnip Rally in Knockout Tour, Spectator Mode and online rooms for 26 players, and Nintendo says more Knockout Tour routes are planned through future updates. The closest precedent is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's Booster Course Pass, which added 48 courses and 8 characters for $24.99 between March 2022 and November 2023. Expected price for a Mario Kart World DLC is about $24.99, our estimate.

Mario Kart World has no paid DLC, and every new course and mode so far has come in free updates. Here’s what Nintendo has added since launch, how the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass worked and what a DLC would cost.
Is there a Mario Kart World DLC?
Nintendo hasn’t released or announced paid DLC or a Booster Course Pass for Mario Kart World, which launched with the Switch 2 on June 5, 2025. Nintendo hasn’t confirmed reports of an upcoming DLC either. It has released 13 free updates instead, from Ver. 1.1.0 on June 4, 2025, the day before launch, to Ver. 1.8.0 on Sept. 9, 2026.
Those updates have added courses, Knockout Tour routes, a Battle mode and online features at no cost. None of them has added new characters, and Nintendo hasn’t announced any.
What the free updates added
The biggest so far is Ver. 1.8.0. It added 10 courses from the original Super Mario Kart on SNES to VS Race, Time Trials and online and wireless races: Mario Circuit 1, 2 and 3, Ghost Valley 1, 2 and 3, Choco Island 1 and 2, Vanilla Lake 1 and Koopa Beach 1. You pick them through the matching Mario Kart World courses, such as Boo Cinema for Ghost Valley and Sky-High Sundae for Vanilla Lake, and they use item panels instead of item boxes, like the original.

The same update added two Knockout Tour routes, the Propeller Rally between Acorn Heights and Airship Fortress and the Turnip Rally between DK Pass and Shy Guy Bazaar, plus Spectator Mode, filters in Photo Mode and rooms for up to 26 players, with 24 racing.
Earlier updates added the Drill Rally and Boomerang Rally on June 30, 2026, the Bob-omb Blast Battle mode on March 30, 2026, team races in Knockout Tour on Jan. 21, 2026, and Custom Items, which let you choose the items that appear, on Dec. 2, 2025. Our Mario Kart World update page covers each one.
Will Mario Kart World get new tracks?
Yes. In its Ver. 1.8.0 announcement, Nintendo said more Knockout Tour routes are planned through future updates. It hasn’t dated the next update or said whether it adds more classic courses.

Nintendo’s feature updates have arrived on Dec. 2, 2025, and Jan. 21, March 30, June 30 and Sept. 9, 2026, with gaps of seven weeks to three months between them. Every one has been free, so new routes come at no cost to anyone who owns the game.
How the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass worked
The closest precedent is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's Booster Course Pass, which costs $24.99 on the Nintendo US store. It added 48 courses in six waves, from March 18, 2022, to Nov. 9, 2023, when Wave 6 completed it. Highlights include the new Yoshi’s Island course and returning favorites such as DS Waluigi Pinball, GCN Daisy Cruiser, Wii DK Summit and Wii Rainbow Road.

The pass also added 8 characters, Birdo, Petey Piranha, Kamek, Wiggler, Diddy Kong, Funky Kong, Pauline and Peachette, plus Mii racing suits. Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members get all of it at no additional cost, and others buy it on its own or in a bundle with the game.
Mario Kart World on Switch 2
Mario Kart World costs $79.99 on the Nintendo US store, and it’s the console’s best-selling game, at 15.39 million copies as of June 30, 2026, as our Switch 2 sales page explains.

Nintendo also runs online tournaments in the game. The Mario Kart World Open October 2026 event ran on Oct. 17 and 18 and was a qualifier for the Mario Kart World Fall Cup 2026, which Nintendo holds in December for North American players, as our Mario Kart World Fall Cup 2026 page explains.
How much would Mario Kart World DLC cost?
Nintendo hasn’t priced one. Expected price for a Mario Kart World DLC: about $24.99, our estimate, the price of the Booster Course Pass. Other recent paid expansions for Switch 2 games cost $19.99 for Donkey Kong Bananza, as our Donkey Kong Bananza DLC page explains, and $29.99 for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, as our Pokémon Legends: Z-A DLC page covers.
