Hollow Knight Silksong on Switch 2: a $19.99 Switch 2 Edition since launch day, free for Switch owners, but no physical copy

Silksong didn’t make Switch 2 owners wait: the Switch 2 Edition arrived on launch day. Here’s what it costs and what you can’t buy yet.

Is Hollow Knight Silksong on Switch 2?

Yes. Hollow Knight: Silksong – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition came out on Sept. 4, 2025, the game’s launch day, alongside the Switch version. Nintendo’s store says it runs with higher resolution, improved frame rates and additional effects, and Team Cherry describes high frame-rate modes, higher resolutions and many additional graphical effects on the console.

Nintendo lists a download of a little over 4 GB for the Switch 2 Edition, compared with about 3 GB for the Switch version. It’s a single-player game, and a Nintendo Switch Online membership is only needed for cloud save backup.

How much is it, and is the upgrade free?

The Switch 2 Edition costs $19.99 on the Nintendo eShop in the US, the same as the Switch version. If you already own Silksong on Switch, the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack is listed at $0, so you don’t pay again.

Team Cherry did the same with the first game. Hollow Knight Nintendo Switch 2 Edition came out on Feb. 5, 2026, with higher frame rates, higher resolutions and additional effects, and Switch owners got it for free.

Is there a physical copy?

Not yet. Team Cherry hasn’t announced a physical edition of Silksong, and Nintendo’s US store sells it only as a download. The physical Silksong products Team Cherry has promoted so far are merchandise, such as a series of mini figurines of Hornet and other characters that went up for pre-order in December 2025.

Silksong doesn’t need a box to sell. Team Cherry said in December 2025 that more than seven million players had bought the game, with millions more playing on Game Pass.

The free Sea of Sorrow expansion, which Team Cherry has promised for 2026 with new areas, bosses and tools for Hornet. There’s no date yet, as our Silksong Sea of Sorrow release date page explains. The latest patch, the fifth, came out on March 16, 2026, with a Traditional Chinese translation, a refined German translation and a long list of fixes.
