Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy lands on Switch 2 on Nov. 5 as a $39.99 Encore Edition with all the bonus content

When does Guardians of the Galaxy come out on Switch 2?

Thursday, Nov. 5, 2026, according to the US Nintendo eShop, which lists the date without an unlock hour. Eidos-Montréal revealed the Encore Edition on Sept. 9, the day of the September Nintendo Direct, and it arrives on a crowded day for Switch 2: our Ocarina of Time and Stellar Blade Switch 2 pages cover the other two big launches, and our new games in November 2026 list has the whole month.

How much is the Encore Edition?

The game costs $39.99 on the US Nintendo eShop. Pre-orders are discounted to $35.99 through 11:59 p.m. PT on Nov. 4 (2:59 a.m. ET on Nov. 5). A physical Game-Key Card version sells for $39.99 at US retail; the card holds the license, and the full game, about 45GB by Nintendo’s US estimate, downloads over the internet.

What the Encore Edition adds

The Encore Edition is exclusive to Switch 2. Its headline extra is a new set of 1980s glam rock outfits for all five Guardians: Star-Lord, Drax, Gamora, Rocket and Groot. Eidos-Montréal’s press release adds that it includes the complete main game with all previously released digital content.

It’s the first time the game runs natively on a Nintendo console. The original Switch got Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy only as a cloud version, which streams the game from a server and needs a steady internet connection the whole time you play.

The eShop listing offers no upgrade path or discount for cloud version owners, so they pay the same price as everyone else: $35.99 on pre-order or $39.99 from launch. The cloud version stays on sale for the original Switch at $59.99.

How it runs on Switch 2

Those targets come from Marvel’s reveal trailer. The game plays in TV, tabletop and handheld modes, and Nintendo Switch Online members get cloud saves. It supports 13 languages, including English, French, Spanish, Latin American Spanish, Japanese and Brazilian Portuguese.

What kind of game is Guardians of the Galaxy?

You play as Star-Lord in a third-person action adventure, leading the Guardians in and out of battle and calling on teammates' abilities during fights. It’s an original story, not a movie adaptation: a cosmic threat the team unleashed puts the galaxy at risk. Conversations shape how the crew reacts, and the game won Best Narrative at The Game Awards 2021.

Square Enix first released it on Oct. 26, 2021, on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One and PC, with the cloud version on the original Switch the same day.
