The kaiju brawler from 2002 is back in November, and you can try it free for a few more days. Here’s when it comes out, what it costs and what’s in it.

When does Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered come out?

Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026, on PC through Steam, Switch 2, PS5 and Xbox Series X and S. The PlayStation Store and the Xbox store list 9 a.m. ET (6 a.m. PT, 14:00 UTC), and the Nintendo eShop lists Nov. 3 for the Switch 2 version, the only Nintendo version in its US store. Atari revealed the remaster on June 6, 2026.

Price and editions

$29.99. The Nintendo eShop lists the Switch 2 version at that price, and Atari sells physical editions on its own store: $29.99 on PS5 and $39.99 on Switch 2. On Switch 2, the download takes about 3.9GB.

The free demo ends Oct. 27

The Steam demo, out since Oct. 15, runs until Oct. 27. It has three monsters, Godzilla, Gigan and King Ghidorah, local battles for up to four players and online one-on-one quick matches. It also has Destruction Mode, where the goal is to wreck the city for the most points.

What’s in the remaster

Pipeworks Studios made the original Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee in 2002, and the remaster rebuilds its graphics from the ground up. You pick from 12 kaiju, each with a distinct moveset, from melee combos to ranged energy blasts and Rage Mode strikes. Atari highlights the Showa-era Mechagodzilla.

  • 8 arenasEach by day and by night, including real-world cities, Monster Island and the Alien Mothership.
  • Destructible citiesYou can pick up and throw skyscrapers and turn landmarks into weapons.
  • Online multiplayerFor two players, new in the remaster, plus local play for up to four.
  • A campaign for each kaijuGallery items and an unlock system that opens monsters, arenas and gallery items in any order.

Atari publishes the game in partnership with Toho International, the Godzilla rights holder’s US arm.

From GameCube to Switch 2

The original came out on the GameCube in 2002 and on the original Xbox a year later, and it started a run of three Godzilla fighters from Pipeworks, followed by Godzilla: Save the Earth in 2004 and Godzilla: Unleashed in 2007. Destroy All Monsters Melee is the one Atari chose to bring back, with its fast, simple fights and arenas full of buildings to smash, and the remaster keeps the original’s design and moves while it focuses on graphics, online play and unlocks.

That makes the remaster a budget release rather than a new Godzilla game. At $29.99, it costs half the price of a typical new fighting game, and the demo gives a clear preview of how it plays: three of the 12 monsters, the core moves and Destruction Mode. Atari hasn’t announced a discount for owners of the 2002 game.

This page is updated as soon as Atari announces the Steam and Switch 2 release times or the full kaiju roster.
