The time-travel visual novel behind a series with more than 4 million sales gets a full remake on consoles on Oct. 29. Here’s when Steins;Gate Re:Boot comes out, what each edition costs and what’s new.
When does Steins;Gate Re:Boot come out?
Thursday, Oct. 29, 2026, on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PS5 and Xbox Series X and S in North America and Europe. Spike Chunsoft publishes the game in the West, and the Nintendo eShop and Microsoft’s store both list Oct. 29 as the release date.
PC players don’t have to wait. Steins;Gate Re:Boot came out worldwide on Steam on Aug. 20, 2026, so the console launch completes a two-step release. Steam buyers got up to 10% off during the first two weeks after launch. The game is rated M for Mature 17+ by the ESRB. Physical pre-orders opened at retailers on May 27, 2026, and digital pre-orders on the Nintendo eShop on Oct. 8, 2026.
Price and editions
The Standard Edition costs $59.99 on the Nintendo eShop, on both Switch 2 and Switch, and on Steam. The Digital Deluxe Edition costs $79.99 on the eShop and Steam, and Spike Chunsoft says a PS5 version of the Deluxe Edition is on the way. Spike Chunsoft’s pages don’t list PS5 and Xbox prices. Expected price: $59.99 on PS5 and Xbox, our estimate, in line with the eShop and Steam.

The Digital Deluxe Edition adds the Visual Collection digital art book, the game’s soundtrack, footage from the Steins;Gate 15th Live One World concert with English subtitles and the bonus game Steins;Gate Octet of Shifting Space.
For shelves, Spike Chunsoft sells a physical Standard Edition and a SteelBook Edition through major US and European retailers. The first print run includes a 4.5-inch clear sticker featuring the characters. Expected price for the SteelBook Edition: about $69.99, our estimate, since Spike Chunsoft’s own pages don’t list it.
Pre-order bonus: Octet of Shifting Space
Pre-order the Digital Standard Edition on the Nintendo eShop, for Switch 2 or Switch, and you get Steins;Gate Octet of Shifting Space at launch. On Steam, the same game is a free bonus with either edition bought by Nov. 30, 2026, Pacific time, and it unlocks on Oct. 29.
Octet of Shifting Space is a 2011 Windows game making its first trip to consoles. It imagines Steins;Gate as an adventure for a 1980s home computer: you type English commands into a text parser instead of picking choices, while Okabe and the lab members hunt down the stolen IBN 5100 across Akihabara.
What’s new compared with the original
Re:Boot is a ground-up remake of the 2009 original, which first came out on Xbox 360 and grew into a series with more than 4 million units sold worldwide. MAGES. redrew every character, background and event image, and Spike Chunsoft says the game has about twice as many event stills and roughly 20% more backgrounds than the Xbox 360 version. Character designer huke returns with updated outfits, and the E-mote animation system gives the cast smooth, expressive movement.

The script builds on Steins;Gate Elite with smoother pacing and more text, the original Japanese cast re-recorded every line, and composer Takeshi Abo remade the whole soundtrack. The biggest addition is the Gamma Worldline, a new route with its own ending. In it, Okabe lands in a world where the time machine was never finished and the past-altering D-Mails don’t exist, and works alongside Moeka Kiryu in a story Spike Chunsoft calls brutal in a new way.
Story and gameplay
You play Rintaro Okabe, a university student who runs a small, quirky invention club in Akihabara called the Future Gadget Laboratory, until its latest creation turns out to send emails to the past. Changing the past draws Okabe and the lab members, including Kurisu Makise, Mayuri Shiina and Itaru Hashida, into a global conspiracy as timelines split.

Your choices come through Okabe’s phone. The Phone Trigger system changes the story and the ending based on how you handle incoming calls and emails: answering, replying or ignoring them. Spike Chunsoft puts a full playthrough at about 30 to 50 hours, and the multiple endings reward repeat runs.
The Switch 2 version
On Nintendo’s newest console, Steins;Gate Re:Boot is a dedicated Switch 2 release that supports TV, tabletop and handheld modes, and it won’t run on the original Switch. The separate Switch version also costs $59.99, so buy the one that matches your console. Both offer Japanese voices with English, Japanese and Chinese text, and Save Data Cloud backup works with a Nintendo Switch Online membership.
