PlayStation lists the game for PS5 only, and Sony has not announced a PC version. That matters because both games of the Norse saga, God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök, are on PS5, PS4 and PC. On a PS5 Pro, Laufey is PS5 Pro Enhanced and uses PSSR, PlayStation’s AI upscaler, for a sharper image on 4K TVs.

Price, editions and pre-order bonus

Standard Edition owners can upgrade to the Digital Deluxe Edition later. Buyers of the physical Standard Edition get the pre-order bonus as a download code. The in-game armor and weapons unlock as you progress through the story.

The Collector Box is the physical extra for fans. Its eight-inch statue shows Faye, Phranque and Rue fighting Begtse’s soldiers, and Phranque lights up when you plug the statue into a USB power source. The box also has a 51-card Oracle Deck with art by Megan Lara and a physical mini artbook. It costs $149.99, €149.99 or £129.99, comes in highly limited quantities and is sold only directly by PlayStation, on PlayStation Direct in the US, from 10 a.m. ET on Oct. 13 while supplies last. It ships on launch day.

Story: Faye in the afterlife of the gods

God of War (2018) began with Kratos and Atreus setting out to spread Faye’s ashes. In Laufey, she wakes up after her funeral in the Everywhen, the realm where all magic is born and returns, and where gods from different mythologies fight for power. Two of the gods she meets are Sekhmet and Begtse, and neither is friendly. The plans she made to protect Kratos and Atreus are at risk, and she has to fight her way home.

She is not alone. Phranque, a curious cosmic cube voiced by Jack Quaid, and Rue, an enchanted ribbon voiced by Perlina Lau who guards a powerful sword, join her soon after she wakes up. Deborah Ann Woll returns as Faye after playing her in God of War Ragnarök.

Combat: a sword, a serpent bow and soul strikes

Santa Monica Studio says Faye’s combat mixes the movement and speed of the Greek-era games with the world-building of the Norse era. She moves between ground and air without halting the action. Her main weapon is the sword Rue guards. Her Serpent Bow has a full-aim mode for precise shots that can impair an enemy’s movement or attacks, with up to five arrows stacked into one volley, and a half-aim hip-fire mode for close-range bursts. Swappable Scales change how the bow plays.

As the Golden Hand of the Jötnar, Faye can also strike an enemy’s soul out of its body with her golden palm, then attack the soul directly or knock it into other enemies. You customize her with armor sets, sword Blades, bow Scales and magic Catalysts.

PlayStation says the game can be played completely standalone, but recommends the two Norse games to fully appreciate the world and its characters. For what else is coming to PS5 first, see our November 2026 release calendar, and for Sony’s next console, our PS6 page.
