Fight Night release date: EA confirms a new boxing game in pre-production, the first since 2011
EA confirmed on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026, that a new Fight Night is in pre-production, the first game in its boxing series since Fight Night Champion in March 2011. The news came in a letter to employees, signed by Chief Operating Officer David Tinson and Chief Studios Officer Cam Weber, which EA published on its site, and the new game draws on the tech of EA's simulation fighting team, the makers of the EA Sports UFC games. EA hasn't announced a release date, platforms, a price or a name. Our estimate puts the release in 2028 at about $69.99.
EA is bringing back Fight Night, its boxing series, for the first time since 2011. Here’s what EA confirmed, when the new game comes out by our estimate and what it costs.
When does the new Fight Night come out?
EA hasn’t announced a release date. The game is in pre-production, the planning and prototyping stage before full development, according to EA’s letter to employees of Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026. Our estimate puts the release in 2028.
Games that leave pre-production typically need two more years of full development before launch, and EA hasn’t moved Fight Night past that first stage. The new game also starts from existing tech rather than from scratch, since EA builds it on the capabilities of its simulation fighting team, which keeps the timeline short.
What EA said about Fight Night
The news came in Building EA’s Next Chapter, a letter to employees that EA published on its site on Oct. 21. Chief Operating Officer David Tinson and Chief Studios Officer Cam Weber signed it.
In the EA Sports part of the letter, EA promises news on two new projects over the next few months, including Project Gridiron, a social-first open-world game from its American football team. The same paragraph confirms pre-production on the return of what the letter calls “a beloved, fan-favorite in Fight Night.”
The same letter closes BioWare and ends work on the next Mass Effect, as our BioWare shut down page explains.
Who is making the new Fight Night
EA says the game leverages its simulation fighting team, the group behind the EA Sports UFC series. EA Sports UFC 5, the team’s latest release, came out on Oct. 27, 2023, on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S. EA hasn’t named a lead studio for Fight Night.
The old Fight Night games came from EA’s Vancouver studio, listed on the Xbox Store as Electronic Arts Canada, the same home as the UFC series.
Platforms and price
EA hasn’t named platforms or a price. Our estimates:
- PlatformsPS5 and Xbox Series X and S, the consoles of EA Sports UFC 5. The UFC games skipped PC, and so did every Fight Night.
- Expected priceAbout $69.99, our estimate. That’s the standard edition price of Madden NFL 27, as our Madden 27 page lists, and of EA Sports FC 27, as our EA Sports FC 27 page shows.
Is it called Fight Night 27?
EA hasn’t announced a name. Players search for Fight Night 27, after the year numbers on EA Sports FC 27 and Madden NFL 27, and EA hasn’t confirmed it. The letter calls the game Fight Night and nothing more.
EA also hasn’t shown a trailer or a screenshot of the new game, and the images on this page come from Fight Night Champion.
The last Fight Night: Fight Night Champion
Fight Night Champion came out on March 15, 2011, on PS3 and Xbox 360, two years after Fight Night Round 4. It was the first EA Sports game rated M for Mature, with blood and body damage, and it added Champion Mode, a story campaign about middleweight contender Andre Bishop inspired by classic boxing movies. The series began in 2004 with Fight Night 2004.
Fight Night Champion sells on the Xbox Store for $19.99 and runs on Xbox One and Xbox Series X and S through backward compatibility.
This page is updated as soon as EA announces the name, platforms or release date of the new Fight Night.
