Black Myth: Wukong DLC: why there's no expansion, what the free updates added and why Zhong Kui came next
Black Myth: Wukong has no story DLC, and Game Science hasn't announced one in the two years since the game launched on Aug. 20, 2024. The studio's next announced project is a new game, Black Myth: Zhong Kui, revealed on Aug. 20, 2025, as the second game in the Black Myth series, with a new main character and no release date. Wukong's only paid add-on is the $9.99 Deluxe Edition Upgrade, with a staff, an armor set, a curio and a 67-track soundtrack. Its biggest new content came free with Patch 1.0.13 on Dec. 14, 2024, which added the Challenge mode and the Journeyer's Chart, and the latest patch, 1.0.21, arrived on Jan. 14, 2026. Expected price for a story DLC, if Game Science ever makes one, is about $19.99, our estimate.

Black Myth: Wukong has no story DLC, and Game Science’s next announced game is Black Myth: Zhong Kui. Here’s what Wukong has received since launch, what the paid upgrade includes and where a DLC stands.
Is there a Black Myth: Wukong DLC?
Game Science hasn’t released or announced a story DLC for Black Myth: Wukong since the game launched on Aug. 20, 2024, on PS5 and PC. The game reached Xbox Series X and S in August 2025.

What Wukong has instead is free content and one paid add-on. The Deluxe Edition Upgrade at $9.99 adds gear and a soundtrack, and Patch 1.0.13 on Dec. 14, 2024, added a new Challenge mode and the Journeyer’s Chart for every player at no cost.
Why Zhong Kui came next
On Aug. 20, 2025, the first anniversary of Wukong’s launch, Game Science revealed Black Myth: Zhong Kui, the second game in the Black Myth series. It stars Zhong Kui, the banisher of evil from Chinese folklore, rather than the Destined One, and Game Science calls it a proper single-player action RPG with the same business model as Wukong.
The studio says it keeps much of what players liked in Wukong while trying new gameplay built around the new main character. It showed a 15-minute gameplay trailer in August 2026 and hasn’t given a release date, as our Black Myth: Zhong Kui release date page explains. With the team on a new game, Wukong’s post-launch work has been patches rather than new chapters.
What the free updates added
Patch 1.0.13, on Dec. 14, 2024, was the big one. After you finish the game once, Challenge opens at any Keeper’s Shrine, with two modes. Return of Rivals lets you duel a former opponent on one of three difficulty levels, and Gauntlet of Legends sends you through several bosses in a row with custom curses to set the difficulty, where some old opponents bring new moves. Clearing a gauntlet rewards rare treasures such as the Three Hill Crown, the Qing Mallet, the Fanged Cyan Staff and the Leeching Centipede Staff. The same patch added the Journeyer’s Chart.

Later patches focused on polish. Patch 1.0.20 on Oct. 16, 2025, improved the fight against the Yaoguai King Giant Shigandang, added AMD FSR 4 support, raised performance and added Czech. Patch 1.0.21 on Jan. 14, 2026, fixed a Super Resolution setting that hurt performance, along with crash and visual bugs.
The Deluxe Edition Upgrade and prices
The Deluxe Edition Upgrade costs $9.99 and adds the Bronzecloud Staff, the Folk Opera armor set of mask, Almsgiving Armor, Leather Bracers and Buskins, the Wind Chimes curio and the Selected Digital Soundtrack of 67 tracks. The standard edition costs $59.99 and the Digital Deluxe Edition $69.99. These were the Steam prices on Oct. 19, 2026.

Game Science marks every Aug. 20 as its annual news day and discounted all digital editions by 30% from Aug. 12 to Aug. 25, 2026, after the game’s first-ever discount of 20% in June 2025.
Will Black Myth: Wukong ever get DLC?
Game Science hasn’t announced any Wukong DLC, and its two most recent Aug. 20 updates were about Zhong Kui. Wukong’s latest patch is 1.0.21, from Jan. 14, 2026. Expected price for a story DLC, if the studio ever returns to Wukong: about $19.99, our estimate, a third of the game’s price. For other 2024 and 2025 action games with paid DLC, see our Elden Ring Nightreign DLC and Ninja Gaiden 4 DLC pages.
