Black Myth: Zhong Kui release date: no date yet, and Game Science says it won't be quick

Game Science's official FAQ says it will come out as soon as the team can, but warns that it won't be quick, and says the game is coming to PC and major consoles, with final platforms to be confirmed before launch. Game Science has now shown three videos of its next Black Myth game, but it still won’t say when it’s coming. Here’s what’s official.

When does Black Myth: Zhong Kui come out?

Game Science hasn’t said, not even a year. Asked roughly when the game will be released, the studio’s official FAQ answers that it will come out as soon as possible, but that it first has to impress the studio’s own experienced staff, so it won’t be quick. Another answer adds that the team doesn’t seem to have finished the story outline yet.

There’s no price, no pre-orders and no Steam store page. The studio says the easiest way to keep up is its yearly check-in on Aug. 20, when it shares progress on its official Black Myth channels.

Which platforms is it coming to?

PC and major consoles, Game Science says, with final platform details to come in an announcement before release. It hasn’t named PS5 or Xbox Series X and S yet. For comparison, Black Myth: Wukong came out in August 2024 on PS5, Steam, the Epic Games Store and WeGame, and reached Xbox Series X and S a year later. It costs $59.99 on Steam.

What has Game Science shown so far?

Three videos. Game Science revealed the game with a teaser trailer in August 2025, a year after Wukong came out. In February 2026, it released a six-minute in-engine Chinese New Year special. Then in August 2026, it showed a 15-minute gameplay trailer, the first look at the main character in combat and at some story scenes.

The studio warns that footage shown this early may differ from the final game, and that some of what it’s exploring is still experimental.

What kind of game is it?

Zhong Kui is a figure from Chinese folklore, known as the banisher of evil. The game is the second in the Black Myth series and is again rooted in ancient Chinese mythology and folklore. Game Science says it will be a proper single-player action RPG with the same business model as Wukong.

The studio wants to keep much of what players liked about Wukong while trying gameplay built around the new main character, new technical features and a different way of telling the story. It won’t say more about the plot yet.
