BeamNG.drive PS5 release date: out Oct. 19 with 4-player split screen, but no mods or VR yet

BeamNG.drive, the soft-body crash simulator, is out on PS5. It launched on Oct. 19, the same day as version 0.40 on PC. Here’s what the PS5 version has, what it’s missing and what’s new.

When did BeamNG.drive come out on PS5? On Monday, Oct. 19, 2026. BeamNG first confirmed a PS5 version for 2026 in May, announced the date on Sept. 24 and launched it the same day as version 0.40 on PC. It’s the game’s first console release: BeamNG.drive has been on Steam since May 2015.

BeamNG was upfront before launch: mods and VR aren’t supported on PS5 at launch. The studio aims for feature parity across platforms in the long term, but it can’t confirm when or how much yet. On PC, mods stay one of the biggest draws of the game, so PS5 players start with the official cars and maps only.

Split screen for four on PS5. The headline of version 0.40 is local split screen, one of the community’s most requested features. On PS5 it supports up to four players, and on PC up to 64, hardware permitting. Players start a session from the main menu or the pause menu.

In Freeroam, everyone spawns together with a random vehicle suited to the map, with separate colors and assist settings. For something more structured, there are seven modes:

• RaceWith over 85 time trial and AI race layouts.
• Drag RaceHead to head over the quarter mile.
• PursuitAs the police or the runner.
• DerbyLast vehicle moving wins.
• DriftFor the highest score in the time limit.
• Rock CrawlingThrough hard trails.
• SoccerPushing a ball into the other team’s goal.

Version 0.40 adds physical occupants. Each one adds 89 kg to the seat and the vehicle and wobbles with the driving, and players can climb into a friend’s car and ride along. Walking mode gets a new character, and players finally see themselves in mirrors.

The new vehicle is the Cherrier Percheron, a European cab-over semi truck from the early 2000s and BeamNG’s most interactive vehicle yet. It comes in three cab sizes, with frames from 6.17 m to 9.80 m, two to five axles and more than 50 chassis setups, powered by a 12.8-liter turbocharged six-cylinder making 310 to 500 hp. New European trailers include flatbeds, insulated boxes and fuel and food tankers. There’s also an 86 kg fiberglass dinosaur mascot that fits in pickup beds and floats on water.

BeamNG posted hotfix 0.40.2 for Oct. 22. It fixes Pursuit police vehicles in split screen, several drag race bugs, wheels steering on their own, a common audio crash and memory leaks in the interface, and raises career mode’s rotating autosaves from two to four.

BeamNG.drive costs $24.99 on Steam. Expected price on PS5: about $24.99, our estimate, since BeamNG’s announcements don’t list a console price.
