Xbox has a new, smaller controller. Microsoft introduced the Xbox Nano Controller on Oct. 14: a $49.99 pad that is a little over 5 inches long and weighs 3.5 ounces, making it Xbox’s smallest controller. Xbox pitches it at younger players, smaller hands and anyone who wants something to carry around. Pre-orders are open now, and it goes on sale in November.

Small, but a full controller. Xbox says the Nano is lighter and shorter than most modern smartphones, yet keeps all 18 standard gameplay inputs, so the layout is the same one Xbox players already know. The programmable Action Button can take screenshots, capture gameplay or run other shortcuts, and you can remap buttons in the Xbox Accessories app. It pairs over Xbox Wireless with consoles and over Bluetooth with PCs, phones, tablets and smart TVs.

There is one catch to know before you order: the battery is built in and rechargeable, but the USB-C charging cable is sold separately. The box contains only the controller.

Where and when. Pre-orders started on Oct. 14 at $49.99. Xbox says the Nano will be available beginning in November in Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Czechia, Denmark, the Dominican Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Panama, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Trinidad and Tobago, the UK and the US, with more markets to follow. Xbox has not announced an exact release day.

In the US this holiday season, Xbox and Samsung will offer an Xbox Nano Controller and two months of Game Pass Ultimate for new members with select Samsung TVs. Those TVs have the Xbox app built into their Gaming Hub, so in select regions you can stream hundreds of Game Pass games with your monthly cloud playtime just by connecting the controller. A similar US offer with Meta bundles the Nano and two months of Game Pass Ultimate for new members with a Meta Quest.

Xbox mentions Minecraft Dungeons II, with four-player local and online co-op, and Forza Horizon 6 as games to play with it. The Nano is not Xbox’s only new controller this fall: the Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition for the 25th anniversary launches on Oct. 20. This page is updated as soon as Xbox announces the exact release day or more countries for the Xbox Nano Controller.
