You can’t buy Tesla Optimus yet. As of October 14, 2026, Tesla has not announced a price, does not take orders or deposits, and has not set a release date for customers. Its most recent official update, from July 22, says Optimus production at the Fremont factory is “anticipated later this year” — and that the first robots off the line stay inside Tesla.

What Tesla’s own reports say

Optimus in Tesla’s 2026 reports
  1. Apr 22, 2026Q1 update: the first Optimus factory line, “designed for 1 million robots a year,” will replace the Model S and X lines in Fremont
  2. Jul 22, 2026Q2 update: S and X lines decommissioned, first-generation Optimus lines being installed, production “anticipated later this year”
  3. Oct 21, 2026Q3 results and webcast, 5:30 p.m. ET — the next official Optimus update

In July, Tesla wrote that it had “decommissioned the manufacturing lines for Models S & X at our Fremont Factory and are installing the first-generation lines for Optimus, where we expect to start production soon.”

Who gets the first robots

Not buyers. Tesla says “the initial Optimus builds will be used in our Optimus Academy for training data collection and further functionality development.” In other words, the first Optimus robots work for Tesla — gathering the data that teaches later robots new tasks.

Tesla is also building a second-generation line at Gigafactory Texas, “designed for long-term annual production capacity of 10 million robots.” The company warns in the same reports that installed capacity is not the same as real output, which depends on equipment, parts supply and other factors.

Price: not announced

Tesla’s reports and filings name no price for Optimus, and there is no Optimus order page on Tesla’s site. Numbers that circulate online — often in the $20,000 to $30,000 range — are not prices Tesla has published, and no one can pre-order at any price today.

What to watch on October 21

Tesla posts its third-quarter results after the market closes on Wednesday, October 21, followed by a webcast at 4:30 p.m. Central / 5:30 p.m. Eastern. That update is where Tesla would report whether Fremont production has started and how many robots it has built. This page is updated the same evening.
