Xbox server closures in 2026: Warzone leaves Xbox One on Nov. 6, and NBA 2K25 is next
Call of Duty: Warzone stops working on Xbox One when Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 starts at midnight ET on Friday, Nov. 6, 2026. NBA 2K25 follows on Dec. 31, New World: Aeternum on Jan. 31, 2027, and two more 2K games by the end of March. Microsoft publishes no single list, because publishers run these servers and set the dates.
- Xbox Series X|S
- Xbox One
Warzone’s run on Xbox One ends on Nov. 6, and it’s the first of five Xbox closures on the calendar through March 2027. Here they are with dates from the publishers' own notices wherever those exist, plus what you keep and what you lose.
Which Xbox games are losing their servers next?
| Game | Online ends | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Call of Duty: Warzone (Xbox One) | Nov. 6, 2026, midnight ET | No longer playable on Xbox One or PS4, and it stays on Xbox Series X and S and PC |
| NBA 2K25 | Dec. 31, 2026 | Online services end, and MyCAREER and MyTEAM stop |
| New World: Aeternum | Jan. 31, 2027 | Taken offline on all platforms |
| PGA Tour 2K23 | March 12, 2027 | Multiplayer servers shut down |
| WWE 2K25 | March 31, 2027 | Online services end |
2K’s status page warns that its dates can be extended or brought forward. An earlier report gave March 14 for WWE 2K25, and we use 2K’s later date. The Xbox and PlayStation stores print the March 12 date for PGA Tour 2K23, and NBA 2K25’s Xbox store text carries its Dec. 31 date.
When exactly does Warzone stop on Xbox One?
Activision says Warzone will no longer be available to play on Xbox One and PS4 from Modern Warfare 4 Season 1, and that season starts at midnight ET on Nov. 6, which is 9 p.m. PT on Nov. 5. Expected cut-off: that same hour, our estimate, since Activision prints no separate time for the older consoles. New downloads on those consoles ended on June 4, and the in-game store closed on June 25.
Moving costs nothing, because Warzone is free on Xbox Series X and S. Your progression and the content you bought with COD Points carry over on the same linked Activision account. Unspent COD Points move only to the current console in the same family, so Xbox One points go to Xbox Series X and S. Most content bought with real money stays tied to your platform account. Our Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 page covers what the new season brings.
Does a server closure mean the game stops working?
It depends on the game. Online-only games stop entirely. New World: Aeternum goes offline for good on Jan. 31, 2027, after Amazon Games delisted it on Jan. 15, 2026, and Anthem can’t be played at all since its servers closed.
Games with offline modes keep those modes. GRID Legends keeps single-player after its online services ended. NBA 2K25’s Xbox store text lists Play Now, MyNBA, The W and MyLEAGUE as offline modes and says everything else needs an internet connection, so MyCAREER and MyTEAM end with the servers. 2K took NBA 2K25 off sale on Oct. 30.
Which Xbox games have already closed in 2026?
| Game | Closed | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Anthem | Jan. 12 | Online only, so it no longer runs |
| NBA Live 19 | Jan. 30 | On EA’s service updates list for Xbox One |
| WWE 2K24 | March 31 | Date from Microsoft’s own store text |
| Battlefield Hardline | June 22 | On EA’s list for Xbox One |
| Madden NFL 23 | July 13 | On EA’s list for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S |
| WWE 2K Battlegrounds | Aug. 20 | 2K’s status page gives Aug. 20, and the Xbox store text still says July 9 |
| NHL 22 and NHL 23 | Aug. 31 | On EA’s list for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S |
| Hawked | Sept. 7 | The Xbox store text says the game and its online services are retired |
| GRID Legends | Sept. 11 | EA’s service updates list covers Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S |
| Rocket Racing | Oct. 1 | Epic removed the mode from Fortnite |
This table holds closures we could trace to a publisher or a store listing. Press reports name others, and those stay off it until a publisher confirms them.
This page is updated as soon as a publisher announces or moves an Xbox closure date.
