Warcraft III got a new story more than two decades after The Frozen Throne. Here’s what Forsaken Kingdom includes, what you need to play it and what happened with patch 3.0.1.

When did Forsaken Kingdom come out?

Warcraft III: Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom came out on Sept. 12, 2026. Blizzard announced it at the BlizzCon 2026 Opening Ceremony and made it available the same day. It’s the first new story for Warcraft III in more than 23 years.

What’s in the campaign

Forsaken Kingdom follows the fall of Lordaeron and its transformation into the Undercity. The newly risen Forsaken break free of the Scourge, led by heroes such as Sylvanas Windrunner, and make choices that carry into the era of World of Warcraft: Forever. Blizzard says the campaign includes a prologue, three story chapters and a neutral Forsaken Paladin hero, who’s also available as a tavern hero in multiplayer.

The story leads directly into World of Warcraft: Forever, which is set after Forsaken Kingdom and launches on Nov. 4, 2026.

How to get Forsaken Kingdom

The campaign is sold on the Battle.net Shop and requires Warcraft III: Reforged. Blizzard also offers a Forsaken Kingdom Combo and a limited-time Warcraft Forever Collection. Note that the Reforged client now has to stay online, and LAN mode was removed from it. Offline and LAN play still work through the Classic client.

What the 3.0 update changed

The campaign arrived with update 3.0.0, a large free patch for all Reforged players. A new Definitive Edition mode replaces Classic HD, so you now choose between Classic, Definitive Edition and Reforged graphics, and you can switch on the mission select screen. The maximum selection group doubled from 12 to 24 units, and campaign progress now unlocks across modes.

The World Editor got a new lighting editor, free camera and an option to convert triggers to Lua. Blizzard also added game servers in nine new locations, including Oregon and Toronto, and custom lobbies can now be password protected.

Patch 3.0.1 was rolled back

Patch 3.0.1 didn’t last. On Oct. 8, 2026, Blizzard restored the game to version 3.0.0 to give players more time to finish their current acts before their saves stop working. Blizzard plans to bring 3.0.1 back in the coming weeks, and it stays on the test server until then. If you’re in the middle of the campaign, that means it’s worth finishing your current act before 3.0.1 comes back.
