Diablo 5 release date: Diablo V comes out in spring 2029, and Diablo has already won

Blizzard’s next Diablo starts after the worst has already happened. Here’s when Diablo V comes out and what the team showed at BlizzCon 2026.

When does Diablo 5 come out?

Diablo V comes out in spring 2029. Blizzard announced it at the BlizzCon 2026 Opening Ceremony on Sept. 12, 2026, and the official Diablo V website says the game is in development. There’s no exact day, and dates shared online beyond the spring window aren’t official.

By simple arithmetic, spring 2029 is about two and a half years after the reveal. Blizzard says the game is still early in development and plans to share regular updates starting in 2027. Platforms, a price and editions haven’t been announced.

What Diablo V is about

The premise is simple: the heroes of the past have failed, Sanctuary has fallen and Diablo has won. Diablo now rules from the throne of Westmarch and treats Sanctuary as a stepping stone to invading the Heavens, so the Lord of Terror is present from the start instead of waiting at the end.

You play the Heir to Westmarch, on the run through a kingdom turned into an outpost of Hell, with a mysterious connection to Diablo. The world itself changes, too. Blizzard describes a procedural landscape on the Western Continent where terrain, points of interest, monsters and rewards can change when you return.

The caravan replaces towns

With Sanctuary under Diablo’s rule, there are no safe towns to return to. Instead, you build a caravan of survivors who travel with you and act as vendors and companions. Blizzard has introduced two of them: a former Sister of the Sightless Eye and a stranded Treasure Goblin.

Classes and loot

The first three classes are the Demon Hunter, who fights with twin crossbows, the Monk, who fights with fists and holy power, and the all-new Plague Knight, who spreads disease and pestilence and consumes it for power. Blizzard says more classes will follow.

Items take their cue from Diablo II. Blizzard is experimenting with stat requirements on gear, bigger items take up more inventory space again, and gear-based sets are back, along with a crafting system built around Diablo II-style Runes and Runewords.

What to play while you wait

Diablo IV is still getting new content. Its Season of Hell’s Legacy began on Sept. 15, 2026, the same day the game came to Nintendo Switch 2, and its first class pack, with the javelin-wielding Amazon, is due in the first half of 2027. A Diablo animated series is also in development with Netflix, and Blizzard’s World of Warcraft: Forever launches on Nov. 4, 2026.
