Slay the Spire 2 release date: in early access since March 5, 2026, with Mega Crit estimating one to two years until 1.0

Slay the Spire 2 is playable, but Mega Crit won’t put a date on the finished game. Here’s what the studio has said about 1.0.

When does Slay the Spire 2 come out?

It’s already out in early access. Mega Crit released it on Steam on March 5, 2026, for $24.99, on Windows, Mac and Linux. The game sold 3 million copies in its first week, according to the studio.

There’s no date for version 1.0. On the Steam page, Mega Crit says early access will last until the game feels great, and that while it expected the first game’s early access to take about a year, it took about a year and a half, so the sequel may land in the same one to two year range. Counting from March 2026, that range runs from early 2027 to early 2028, but it’s an estimate, not a promise, and Mega Crit said in April 2026 that promising dates isn’t what works for the team.

What will change by 1.0?

According to the Steam page, the full version will add more gameplay content, a true ending, more game modes, better balance and bug fixes, wider hardware support, fancier visual effects and more languages. The price will go up once early access ends.

The roadmap Mega Crit shared in April lists an alternate Act 2, a new character, an alternate Act 3 and more cards, events, relics and potions. In August, the studio said it was actively working on experimental game modes, the alternate Act 2 and the new character, and that updates would come further apart while it builds bigger pieces of content. In its September newsletter, Mega Crit teased another unexplored area of the Spire but said it couldn’t yet give a timeline for the next patch.

Is it coming to mobile and consoles?

Eventually. The April roadmap lists ports to other consoles, platforms and mobile, along with Steam achievements and trading cards, as further-off items. In August, Mega Crit said touchscreen controls would likely come as part of the push for mobile ports. No platforms or dates have been announced for any of them.

What’s in the early access version?

Five characters: the returning Ironclad, Silent and Defect and two new ones, the Necrobinder and the Regent. There’s a co-op mode for up to four players with multiplayer-specific cards, and Mega Crit says it has since added Steam Workshop support, the first pieces of the Bestiary, a badge and score system and Traditional Chinese and Indonesian translations. Two major updates have reached all players so far, on April 16 and June 18, 2026.
