Saros Zenith update: free on Oct. 19, with New Game+, Overlord Rush and Slow Game Speed

Housemarque’s bullet ballet has a New Game+ mode, a boss rush and a way to slow the bullets down. Here’s when the Saros: Zenith update came out, what it adds and how to unlock each part.

When did the Saros Zenith update come out?

Monday, Oct. 19, 2026, on PS5. Housemarque announced the update on the PlayStation Blog that morning and made it available to every Saros owner at no additional charge. Saros itself came out on April 30, 2026, five years to the day after the studio’s previous game, Returnal, so Zenith lands five and a half months into the game’s life.

Housemarque set two goals for Zenith: more replay value for players who have already explored Carcosa, and an easier way in for new players, without cutting the projectiles that define the combat. The studio calls Saros one of the highest-rated action games of 2026, and the update serves both groups: Eclipse Layers and Overlord Rush for veterans, Slow Game Speed and Auto-fire for newcomers.

Does Saros have New Game+? Eclipse Layers explained

Yes, since Zenith. The New Game+ mode is called Eclipse Layers. After you clear Saros, new nodes appear on the Armor Matrix back at Passage, the game’s hub. They unlock the gate to the next Eclipse Layer, a more intense version of the game with altered rules.

Each layer starts with a loadout of Carcosan Modifiers, and you can’t begin until the loadout passes a set threshold. Reaching it takes several Trial Modifiers, and the choice of which ones is entirely yours. Some Trials stack into deadly combinations, so a strong loadout needs a plan as much as raw skill.

20 new Carcosan Modifiers

The Carcosan Modifier system tunes Carcosa to your skill, and Zenith adds 20 modifiers. 10 new Protection Modifiers make the game more forgiving. The standout, Corruption Melee Enhancement, flips one of the game’s scariest mechanics. Corruption builds up on your armor when certain projectiles hit and eats away at your max Integrity, but with this Protection active, a landed melee strike consumes the built-up Corruption and turns it into one devastating hit.

10 new Trial Modifiers raise the challenge, for 25 Trials in total. With Hostile Regeneration, larger enemies can be stunned by gunfire but quickly recover, and only a melee strike finishes them, which forces you to rush in at the right moment. Trials also feed Eclipse Layers, so the new ones widen the range of loadouts for New Game+.

The Crown and 12 Visions

In the Eclipse Layers, Arjun Devraj, the Soltari enforcer played by Rahul Kohli, wears a Crown, and the armor glows gold. The more Trials you take on and the higher your Modifier Balance climbs, the bigger and more splendid the Crown grows, an easy way to show off a hard run in Photo mode.

The Crown also unlocks a new collectible. 12 Visions, murals and messages etched in stone by an ancient king, wait across Carcosa in the Eclipse Layers, and each one needs a higher Crown level to reveal its additional story text. That gives lore hunters a reason to push into deeper layers alongside the score chasers.

Overlord Rush: a boss rush with leaderboards

Overlord Rush starts from the Primary Unit in Passage. It’s a training simulation in which you race to take down the game’s Overlords, the major bosses of Carcosa, as fast as you can. The mode is split into Sets: Incursion and Ascension have three Overlords each and take about 10 minutes, and Totality lines up all eight Overlords in one continuous gauntlet.

Times go on an integrated leaderboard, worldwide and among friends, and the global results filter by Main Weapon, so you can chase the top spot with your favorite gun even outside the overall top 10. The leaderboards need an internet connection and an account for PlayStation.

Slow Game Speed, Auto-fire and Motion Sensor Aiming

Slow Game Speed slows the whole game. Enemy attacks keep their patterns and their bullets, but you get more time to read the telegraphs and pick an answer: jump, dash, shield or parry. You choose how much the game slows and whether the setting kicks in automatically during combat or only when you toggle it.

Auto-fire shoots automatically while you aim at a hostile, which helps players who find it hard to hold a button for long stretches and frees attention for dodging. Reloading stays manual, so a perfect reload still takes a well-timed press. Zenith also adds Motion Sensor Aiming, which joins the existing button remapping options.

Saros price and editions

Saros costs $69.99 for the Standard Edition and $79.99 for the Digital Deluxe Edition on the PlayStation Store, and owners of the standard game can upgrade for $10. The Digital Deluxe Edition adds three Enforcer suits inspired by Returnal, Ghost of Yōtei and God of War: the Astra, Onryo and Midgard armors.

PlayStation Plus Premium members can play a 2.5-hour full game trial. Saros is PS5 Pro Enhanced, single player and playable offline, and the ESRB rates it Teen. Zenith comes to every edition, since it’s free for all owners.

Is Saros on PC?

Saros plays only on PS5. Sony hasn’t announced a PC version, and Steam has no page for the game. Housemarque’s previous game, Returnal, came out on PS5 on April 30, 2021, and reached PC on Feb. 15, 2023, about 21 months later. Expected PC release: early 2028 at about $59.99, our estimate, based on that gap.
