Minecraft is getting a new dimension, and you can already see it in another game. Here’s what Mojang has confirmed about the Sift.
When is the Sift coming to Minecraft?
In 2027. Mojang revealed at Minecraft Live in September 2026 that the Sift is coming to Minecraft Java and Bedrock next year, and the broadcast showed a first glimpse of the dimension in Minecraft, along with one of the mobs that lives there. There’s no date yet, and Mojang hasn’t said which game drop will add it.
It’s a big step for the game. The Sift will be the first new dimension in over 14 years, and Minecraft’s fourth, joining the Overworld, the Nether and the End.
What is the Sift?
The Sift made its debut in Minecraft Dungeons II, where it’s reached through mysterious rifts that open across the Overworld. Mojang describes it as strange and beautiful, a vibrant realm teeming with souls, with powerful threats, bizarre beings both friendly and hostile, and landscapes that stop you in your tracks. Areas shown so far include the Meadow and the Carapace.

In the story of Dungeons II, the illagers are back under a new Illager High Council, and their presence reaches into the Sift. Quests send you back and forth between the two worlds as you uncover what’s behind the rifts.
How can you visit the Sift now?
By playing Minecraft Dungeons II, which came out on Sept. 29, 2026, on Windows, Steam, Xbox Series X and S, PS5, Switch and Switch 2, and on Game Pass. It costs $29.99 on Steam, and you can explore the Sift solo or with up to four players in co-op. Two DLCs are planned too, as our Minecraft Dungeons 2 DLC release date page explains.

Mojang hasn’t said how closely the Sift in Minecraft will match the one in Dungeons II, or whether its areas and creatures will carry over.
What’s coming to Minecraft before then?
The next game drop takes you underground rather than to a new dimension. It adds ice caves, a frozen zombie called the Frostbite and brittle ice, and Mojang calls it the final game drop of 2026, as our Minecraft 26.4 release date page explains.
This page is updated as soon as Mojang announces a date, a game drop or new details for the Sift in Minecraft.
