When is the next Fortnite season? What Epic has said about the end of Override

Epic Games has not announced the next Fortnite season yet. The current one, Chapter 7 Season 4: Override, went live on Aug. 20, 2026, and Epic has not given an end date. Inside the season, Fortnitemares 2026 runs until Nov. 1. The last two seasons each lasted about 11 weeks, which would put the end of Override in early November, but Epic has not confirmed it.

When does the next Fortnite season start?

Epic’s launch posts for the last three seasons went up on the day each season started, and it announced Showdown’s end-of-season live event a week ahead, on May 29. For Override, there is no end date yet. Here are the official dates of the last three seasons:

1. Mar 19, 2026Showdown goes live after downtime from 2 a.m. ET; Battle Pass drops to 800 V-Bucks
2. Jun 5, 2026Shattered live event at 7 p.m. ET ends Showdown; Runners downtime starts at 7:30 p.m. ET
3. Jun 6, 2026Runners downtime ends at 2:26 a.m. ET with a new map, the Shattered Coast, and Sprites
4. Aug 20, 2026Override goes live after downtime from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. ET
5. Oct 1, 2026Fortnitemares 2026 begins with update 42.30
6. Oct 15, 2026Honey and Obsession Sprites arrive
7. Nov 1, 2026Fortnitemares 2026 ends

Showdown ran from March 19 to June 5, and Runners from June 6 to Aug. 20: about 11 weeks each. Eleven weeks after Aug. 20 is Thursday, Nov. 5. That is a pattern, not an announcement. Epic has not confirmed whether the next season is Chapter 7 Season 5 or the start of a new chapter, and it has not announced a live event for the end of Override.

What’s in Override right now

Override’s big idea is breaking the rules. Override Consoles appear in every match and let the first player to reach one change the rules for the whole server, with their name displayed around the console. Rarer Squad Overrides buff only your squad but reveal your location. You can also find real-world Lobby Hacks and enter Cheat Codes around the Island.

The season added Midas' Masterpiece, a pistol that eliminates with one headshot, Mega Man’s Mega Buster, Sonic the Hedgehog’s Green Hill Zone with Power Sneakers, and a Tetris Rift. Kingdom Hearts arrived on Sept. 17 with the Kingdom Key and two new Overrides. Your Sprites from Runners stay in the new Sprite Garden mode, and Sprite Dust buys Loot Hacks that add bonus items to your chests.

Fortnitemares 2026

Fortnitemares started with update 42.30 on Oct. 1 and runs until Nov. 1. It brings Freddy Krueger to the new Nightmare Neighborhood POI, Five Nights at Freddy’s animatronics you can possess, the new Bonerattler SMG and returning Halloween weapons like the Pumpkin Launcher and Wood Stake Shotgun. The Horde Rush mode is back, and Nitemare Island returned to Reload on Oct. 8 alongside the Stranger Things and Squid Grounds maps.

On Oct. 15, the Honey Sprite, which sends bees after anyone who damages you, and the Obsession Sprite join the season. Outfits from A Nightmare on Elm Street, Hazbin Hotel, Beetlejuice, Hollow Knight, Predator: Badlands and more keep arriving in the Shop through October.

Battle Pass and V-Bucks

Sonic the Hedgehog headlines the Override Battle Pass, with Tails as a Sidekick. Since March 19, 2026, the Battle Pass costs 800 V-Bucks and pays out 800 V-Bucks when you complete it, enough to buy the next one. Epic also shrank its V-Bucks packs that day.

If you buy through the Epic Games Store or Epic’s own payment system on PC, iOS, Android or the web, you get 20% back in Epic Rewards on purchases in Fortnite, including V-Bucks.

Fortnite on Linux

Epic confirmed on Oct. 14 that Fortnite is coming to Linux once its rebuilt anti-cheat works with enough Linux distributions. There is no date yet: see our Fortnite on Linux page.
