Fable release date: Feb. 23, 2027, on Xbox, PC and PS5

Fable launches on Feb. 23, 2027. Playground Games' reboot comes to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Steam and PS5 on the same day, and it’s included with Game Pass. With the Premium Edition, you can start five days earlier, on Feb. 18.

When does Fable come out?

Fable is out on Feb. 23, 2027, and Premium Edition early access starts on Feb. 18. That’s later than first planned. When Playground Games gave Fable its first in-depth showing at the Xbox Developer_Direct in January 2026, it said the game would arrive in autumn 2026. At the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7, 2026, it set the date for February 2027. Its announcement didn’t give a reason for the move, and the date hasn’t changed since.

Fable price and editions

There are three editions, and the Collector’s Edition has already sold out. Every pre-order includes the Pre-Order Content Pack: a Chicken Suit and three in-game gifts, a wild flower bouquet, a toy chicken and a picnic hamper of scones and jam, which you can use to sway how villagers see your Hero.

On Steam, you’ll be able to upgrade from Standard to Premium after launch. Order of the Hero is a story expansion about an ancient cult in a dangerous new region of Albion, and it arrives after launch, with no date yet.

What kind of game is Fable?

Fable is a single-player open-world action-RPG set in Albion, the series' fairy-tale take on old England. It’s a fresh start, not a sequel to Lionhead’s original trilogy. You create your own Hero and mix melee, ranged and magic combat against bandits, Hobbes, Balverines and Trolls. Outside of fights, you can get rich as a landlord or blacksmith, romance villagers, marry and have kids. Your reputation changes how each of Albion’s more than 1,000 villagers treats you, down to shop prices. Demon Doors and a chicken-kicking minigame return from the old games.

The cast leans on British actors. Hayley Atwell plays Isabel, a Hero turned villain, and Lily Nichol and Ukweli Roach voice the player’s Hero. Matt King, Richard Ayoade and Natasia Demetriou also have major roles, and the trailer gave a first look at the Jack of Blades.

Fable on PC and consoles

Playground Games says you’ll be able to play at both 30 and 60 frames per second and will share more details closer to launch. On PC, Fable supports uncapped frame rates, 4K and HDR10, with optional NVIDIA DLSS 4.5, AMD FSR 3 and 4, and Intel XeSS 2.1.

At launch, Fable has full voice and text in English, Brazilian Portuguese, German and Latin American Spanish, and text only in French, Italian, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Spanish and Polish.
