Exodus release date: April 7, 2027, and pre-orders aren't open yet

The sci-fi RPG from the veterans behind Mass Effect and Baldur’s Gate finally has a launch day. Here’s what’s official.

When does Exodus come out?

On April 7, 2027. Archetype Entertainment revealed the date with a new trailer at Gamescom Opening Night Live on Aug. 25, 2026. Until then, the studio had only said early 2027. The trailer introduced Salt, a companion who pilots a combat mech.

Price and pre-orders

There’s no price yet, and pre-orders aren’t open. The official FAQ says pricing, editions and pre-order bonuses will be announced on the official site and social channels when pre-orders go live. You can add Exodus to your wishlist on the PlayStation, Xbox, Steam and Epic Games stores. Wishlists passed 500,000 in August 2026, which unlocked in-game rewards for every player at launch, and more rewards are planned at 1 million and 1.5 million.

Which platforms is Exodus on?

PS5, Xbox Series X and S and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. Archetype plans a global release across major territories, with menus and subtitles in nine languages, including English, French, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Korean and Simplified Chinese.

What is Exodus about?

It’s a single-player, third-person sci-fi action RPG set 40,000 years in the future. You play Jun Aslan, a salvager turned Traveler, who searches ancient ruins in the Centauri Cluster for something that can save the homeworld of Lidon from the Rot, a Celestial virus pushing humanity toward extinction. Time dilation is part of the story: traveling at the edge of lightspeed means a few days for Jun can be weeks or months back home on Lidon.

The game is developed by Archetype Entertainment, a studio founded by veterans of Mass Effect, Baldur’s Gate and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, with Chris King as game director, and it’s published by Wizards of the Coast.

Companions, choices and character creation

Jun builds a crew of humans and Awakened animals. Salt, an Awakened octopus, pilots a combat mech, snipes from range and hides in ink-like smokescreens. Emrys, a member of a Celestial species called the Deva, supports the team by draining enemies and shielding Jun. Your choices feed into two morality alignments, Paladin and Immortal, which shape who Jun becomes.

You can play Jun as a man or a woman. Archetype chose curated options instead of a full slider-based creator, so you pick hairstyles, facial hair, hair and eye color, makeup and tattoos for a more defined character. The studio hasn’t detailed romance yet, though it listed relationships and romance among the questions players keep asking.

Is there an Exodus book?

Yes. Author Peter F. Hamilton has written Exodus novels set in the game’s universe, and The Helium Sea, the finale of the Archimedes Engine duology, came out on June 16, 2026. There are also tabletop role-playing books, including Chronicles of Melayu.
