Alliance Arts cancels the Steam demo of Drunken Goddess Reflux and moves to a closed play session from Oct. 23 to 31
Alliance Arts canceled the public Steam demo of Drunken Goddess Reflux, a drinking game against a demon, three days before its planned release on Oct. 19, 2026. In its Oct. 16 announcement, the Tokyo publisher gave two reasons: it couldn't properly manage the limits it wanted on gameplay videos and streams, and it worried that copycat games made quickly with AI or other tools could come out before the real one. Instead, a closed online play session runs from Oct. 23 to Oct. 31, Japan time, for players picked by lottery. Applications close on Oct. 22 at 11:59 p.m. Japan time, which is 10:59 a.m. ET.

A publisher scrapped a public demo three days before it went live, partly out of fear of clones. Here’s what Alliance Arts said, how the closed session works and what the game is.
Why Alliance Arts canceled the demo
Alliance Arts, the Tokyo publisher of Drunken Goddess Reflux, announced the change on Oct. 16, 2026, on Steam and on its own site. The free demo was set to go public on Monday, Oct. 19, the same day Steam Next Fest starts, and the publisher apologized for changing plans so close to that date.

It gave two reasons. It had planned to release the demo with limits on posting and streaming gameplay videos, and concluded that its current team can’t properly handle and manage those limits. It’s also concerned that, based on what the demo shows, games copying its presentation and gameplay could be “quickly produced using AI or other tools” and released before the real game.
How the closed play session works. Instead of a public demo, Alliance Arts is running an online play session on Steam for a limited number of players picked by lottery. It’s planned for Oct. 23 to Oct. 31, Japan time, about nine days, and the publisher will announce exact start and end times later. To apply, you join the official WHO YOU Discord server, agree to the session rules and fill out the form by Oct. 22 at 11:59 p.m. Japan time, which is 10:59 a.m. ET.
You have to be at least 15, with a parent’s or guardian’s consent for minors, and able to play games on Steam. Winners don’t get a separate notice: a Steam product code sent by email before the session starts is the notice. After playing, you send feedback through a form on Discord.
What you can and can’t do in the session. The rules are strict on video. You can’t stream the session, give your code to anyone or post spoilers outside the official Discord, though spoiler-free impressions on social media, like saying you had fun, are fine. The rules also ban making or selling copies of the game and having AI learn from or analyze it.
Alliance Arts says the session uses a development version of the Steam release, so it may be unstable and features may change. The publisher can also change, pause or end the session at its discretion.
A drinking game played like Russian roulette with shot glasses, against a demon named Femme Soule in Pandemonium, a bar in Hell. The Steam page says the drunker you get, the more the rules break down, and its screenshots show tricks like sobering up with an ice pick, which cuts intoxication by 3, and a rule change that adds a level 9 drink called Spiritum to the menu. Other screenshots show first-person scenes in the halls of the bar.
The game is produced and written by WHO YOU (Fuyuki Hayashi), with art by odyk and a theme song, DEMON’S SHOT, by Aiobahn +81 with vocals by DEMONDICE. In Japan, Alliance Arts calls it PUKEY GODDESS SHOT TRICK. It’s coming to PC through Steam with English, Simplified Chinese and Japanese, and as of Oct. 17, 2026, the Steam page lists the release date as to be announced.
