Zen 6 release date: AMD's 2nm chips are out for servers, but Ryzen CPUs aren't announced
AMD's Zen 6 architecture is already out, but not for gaming PCs. As of Oct. 16, 2026, the only Zen 6 chips AMD has launched are its 6th Gen EPYC server processors, codenamed Venice, which it introduced at Advancing AI 2026 in San Francisco on July 23 and builds on TSMC's 2nm process. AMD hasn't announced Zen 6 Ryzen processors for desktops or laptops, a release date or prices. Its newest gaming desktop chips still use Zen 5, like the Ryzen 7 9850X3D it announced at CES in January.

Zen 6 is real, and it’s already shipping, just not in a PC you can build. AMD launched its first Zen 6 chips for data centers this summer, and Ryzen fans are still waiting. Here’s what’s official.
Is Zen 6 out yet?
Only for servers. AMD’s first Zen 6 chips are its 6th Gen EPYC processors, codenamed Venice, which AMD launched at Advancing AI 2026 in San Francisco on July 23, 2026. AMD hasn’t announced Zen 6 Ryzen processors for desktops or laptops, and there’s no release date or price for them.
AMD first said Venice was based on Zen 6 in June 2025, when it described the Helios AI rack that uses the chip.
Venice, the first Zen 6 chip
Venice took a while to arrive. AMD said on April 14, 2025, that it was the industry’s first HPC product taped out and brought up on TSMC’s 2nm (N2) process, and on May 21, 2026, that production had started ramping in Taiwan.
The top model, the EPYC 9996, has 256 cores and 512 threads. AMD says the lineup supports up to 16 channels of memory and PCIe Gen 6, with boost clocks up to 5GHz on select models. Venice also goes into AMD’s Helios AI racks, with 18 EPYC chips next to 72 Instinct MI455X GPUs in each rack.
What AMD has said about Ryzen
Very little. At its Financial Analyst Day on Nov. 11, 2025, AMD named its next-generation PC processors, Gorgon and Medusa, and said they’d deliver up to 10x the AI performance of its 2024 chips, but it didn’t give dates or say which architecture each would use. Since then, AMD’s PC launches have stuck to Zen 5.

At CES 2026 on Jan. 5, AMD announced the Ryzen 7 9850X3D, a Zen 5 gaming chip with a 400MHz higher boost clock than the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. It later added the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition, with two stacks of 3D V-Cache, and in March it announced Ryzen AI 400 Series desktop chips for AM5, with systems from HP and Lenovo starting in the second quarter.
AMD hasn’t said which socket its Zen 6 desktop chips will use. At Computex 2024, it committed to supporting the AM5 platform through 2027 and beyond, which is why AM5 owners are watching closely. If you’re building a gaming PC now, AM5 with a Zen 5 X3D chip is still the newest thing AMD sells.
Rumors, and what to watch next
Codenames for Zen 6 desktop chips, core counts and a 2027 launch have all shown up in reports. AMD hasn’t confirmed any of them.
The next official dates are close. AMD reports third-quarter results on Tuesday, Nov. 3, with a call at 5 p.m. ET, and CES in January is where AMD announced the Ryzen 7 9850X3D this year. Further out, AMD says Zen 7 server chips arrive in 2028 and Zen 8 in 2030. For graphics cards, see our page on the RTX 6090.
