DLSS 5 release date: out since Sept. 1 on RTX 50 cards, and Hogwarts Legacy gets it on Nov. 5

DLSS 5 is out, but only one game and one generation of cards have it so far. Here’s when it came out, which cards and games support it and what’s coming next.

When did DLSS 5 come out?

Nvidia released DLSS 5 on Sept. 1, 2026, in NBA 2K27, with its Game Ready Driver 616.64. It came to all GeForce RTX 50 Series graphics cards and laptops at once, and to GeForce NOW Ultimate members streaming on RTX 5080 servers.

Nvidia first showed DLSS 5 at GTC on March 16, when the demo ran on two RTX 5090 cards. By launch, Nvidia said it was five times faster and ran on a single card, and on Oct. 16 a new model made it twice as fast again, with NBA 2K27 frame rates up by as much as 1.4 times. Does DLSS 5 work on RTX 40 or RTX 30 cards?

Not so far. Nvidia’s DLSS 5 announcements list only RTX 50 Series desktop and laptop GPUs, RTX Spark laptops and GeForce NOW, and it hasn’t announced support for the RTX 40 or RTX 30 Series. Nvidia says DLSS 5 uses the Tensor Cores of RTX 50 Series GPUs to run in real time.

What RTX 40 owners did get, on Oct. 13, is a new and faster Performance Mode for Frame Generation, labeled Preset C in the Nvidia app beta, which works on RTX 40 and RTX 50 cards. DLSS 5 isn’t available on PS5, Xbox or AMD graphics cards.

DLSS 5 games list

As of Oct. 18, NBA 2K27 is the only game with DLSS 5. Hogwarts Legacy gets it in an update on Nov. 5, for RTX 50 Series cards, GeForce NOW and RTX Spark, and Where Winds Meet follows in late November. At GTC, Nvidia said DLSS 5 will also come to AION 2, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Black State, Cinder City, Delta Force, Justice, Naraka: Bladepoint, NTE: Neverness to Everness, Phantom Blade Zero, Resident Evil Requiem, Sea of Remnants, Starfield and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. None of those has a date yet. Nvidia also showed it in EA Sports FC, and Bethesda, Capcom, NetEase, Tencent, Ubisoft and Warner Bros. Games are among the companies supporting it.

What DLSS 5 does

Earlier DLSS versions raised resolution and added frames. DLSS 5 adds what Nvidia calls 3D-Guided Neural Rendering: it takes each finished frame and adds more realistic lighting and materials, such as light passing through skin and hair, deeper contact shadows and better reflections, while keeping the game’s geometry and textures. Game studios decide how strong the effect is and where it applies, and players get a simple on or off switch, called DLSS Neural Rendering in NBA 2K27.

DLSS 5 performance on RTX 50 cards

In NBA 2K27 at 1440p with the Ultra preset and ray tracing, Nvidia lists up to 590 frames per second on the RTX 5090, 410 on the RTX 5080, 350 on the RTX 5070 Ti and 260 on the RTX 5070 with DLSS 5 and its other DLSS features on. At 4K, the RTX 5090 reaches up to 370. Those figures came before the Oct. 16 model, which uses about 118 million parameters, 20% less video memory at 4K and half the graphics processing load of the September version.
