Terraria crossplay release date: crossplay is coming to consoles in the 1.4.6 update, with no date yet, and join codes for every platform later

There's no Terraria crossplay release date yet. Crossplay comes to consoles in Terraria 1.4.6, which Re-Logic calls Crossplay Phase One, and on Sept. 24, 2026, the studio said it was putting the finishing touches on it before sending it to the platform holders for review. PC, mobile and dedicated servers already play together. A second phase, with session IDs or join codes that work across every platform and network, comes after that.

Terraria crossplay on consoles is close, but there’s no date on it yet. Here’s what Re-Logic and DR Studios have said.

When is Terraria crossplay coming out?

There’s no date. Crossplay arrives on consoles in Terraria 1.4.6, which Re-Logic calls Crossplay Phase One. In its Aug. 30, 2026, update, the studio said it would move straight to 1.4.6 once 1.4.5.7 was out and stable on console and mobile, which happened in September. In its Sept. 24, 2026, update, Re-Logic said the finishing touches were being put on Phase One, that the submission should be ready in the near future and that it would announce the moment it goes in.

After submission, the update has to pass review by the platform holders, which is what held up 1.4.5.7 on consoles for about two weeks. Re-Logic also said it wants to bring Phase Two in as soon as possible after Phase One, possibly with something else for players in between.

What will Phase One include?

Phase One gives consoles the kind of crossplay that PC, mobile and dedicated servers already have. According to the plan DR Studios shared on Feb. 26, 2026, consoles get a Local section to join sessions hosted on the same network, a Remote section listing servers you’ve connected to before, connections by IP address and port, and UPnP support to help open a port when hosting. Console friends still appear in the Friends section.

That means players on any device can join each other on a local network, and can connect over the internet if they know the host’s IP address and port. DR Studios said local crossplay works with no technical knowledge, but admitted remote crossplay is temperamental and complex to set up reliably.

What is Phase Two?

The fix for that. In Phase Two, DR Studios wants anyone hosting a game to be able to share a session ID or join code with any player, on any platform and any network, built on top of Phase One: “Truly crossplay.” It hasn’t given a date and said more details will follow once Phase One is out on consoles. Cross-progression, cross-saves and mod support aren’t promised; DR Studios said it hopes to get to those questions in good time.

Why has it taken so long?

PC and mobile have shared a codebase since mobile moved to version 1.3.0.7 in 2019, and consoles joined that codebase with 1.4.0.5 in 2021, so crossplay already works on a technical level. DR Studios says the hold-up on consoles is the cooperation and safety and privacy checks that Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo require, and that it believed it had met them by February 2026. The console versions are now on 1.4.5.8.1, in line with PC; see our Terraria 1.4.5.7 console release date page for those dates.

FAQ

When is Terraria crossplay coming out?

Re-Logic hasn’t announced a date. Crossplay Phase One arrives on consoles in Terraria 1.4.6, and on Sept. 24, 2026, Re-Logic said the finishing touches were being put on it and that the submission to the platform holders should be ready in the near future.

Is Terraria 1.4.6 the crossplay update?

Yes. Re-Logic said on Aug. 30, 2026, that 1.4.6 will be Phase One of crossplay, possibly with some other minor changes.

Does Terraria have crossplay between PC and mobile?

Yes, already. PC, mobile and dedicated servers have been able to play together for years as long as they run the same version, either on a local network or by entering the host’s IP address and port.

Will Terraria crossplay work between PC and PlayStation, Xbox or Switch?

That’s the plan for 1.4.6. Phase One brings the same local network and IP address connections to consoles, so they can join sessions on PC, mobile and servers. Phase Two aims to make it as easy as sharing a join code.

Why doesn't Terraria have crossplay on consoles yet?

DR Studios says cross-platform multiplayer on consoles needs a great deal of cooperation with Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo, with stricter checks to protect players' safety and privacy. In February 2026, it said it believed it had met those requirements.

Will Terraria get cross-progression or cross-saves?

DR Studios hasn’t promised them. In February 2026, it said it hoped to address cross-progression, cross-saves and mod support in good time, after Phase One.
