Planet Zoo 2 is out on PC, PS5 and Xbox: price, editions and the first fixes

Planet Zoo 2 is out. Frontier Developments released the sequel to Planet Zoo on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 10 a.m. ET on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X and S, and says it has already passed the original game’s all-time record for players online at the same time. A day later it shipped its first patch, and another one is coming on Friday.

What’s new in Planet Zoo 2

The headline additions are animals that fly and swim. You build freshwater or saltwater aquariums for species like blacktip reef sharks and hawksbill turtles, and aviaries with mesh covers where birds such as the toco toucan fly freely. Frontier counts more than 130 animals in the game.

The other big change happens outside the zoo walls. Through global conservation projects you can release animals into Wildlife Reserves, large custom areas around the world that you shape yourself. Builders get four new scenery themes plus five from the first game, ready-made blueprints and the series' piece-by-piece construction tools.

The Bonus Content Pack, free with pre-orders until launch, includes an exclusive Toucan Eat shop with signage, three animal donation bins and a tiger photo stand-in wall. On Xbox, Planet Zoo 2 is an Xbox Play Anywhere game, so one purchase covers Xbox and Windows PC.

Update 1.0.4 and what Frontier is fixing next. Frontier released update 1.0.4 on all platforms on Oct. 14, at 9 a.m. ET. It makes DLSS and FSR work when selected in the graphics menu, stops custom keybindings from resetting, removes audio distortion in the heatmap tabs, fixes several crashes and improves Franchise mode stability and the supply of animals for trading there. It also cuts down on animals escaping from habitats and being automatically boxed, and improves breeding and climbing.

Frontier lists climbing, jumping and pouncing animals, animals that misalign with their enrichment items, and escapes as ongoing areas of work. Another update is planned for Friday, Oct. 16, ahead of the weekend.

Maintenance: on Thursday, Oct. 15, at around 2 a.m. ET, online features including Franchise mode and the Workshop will be offline for about an hour.

Frontier notes that Microsoft has ended support for Windows 10, so it cannot guarantee the game will keep working on it. For what else is coming out this fall, see our November 2026 release calendar.
