Valve hasn't announced a Steam Deck 2. There's no name, release date, price or spec sheet for a new Steam Deck. In 2026, Valve launched Steam Controller, Steam Machine and Steam Frame, but its handheld is still Steam Deck OLED, which went up to $789 for 512GB and $949 for 1TB on May 27, 2026. Valve blamed rising memory and storage costs for the increase and said the Deck itself hasn't changed.

When does Steam Deck 2 come out?
Valve hasn’t said. When it announced Steam Controller, Steam Machine and Steam Frame on Nov. 12, 2025, it described them as new hardware joining Steam Deck in its lineup, not as a replacement for it. What Valve has said about a next Steam Deck
Valve’s hardware team has said in interviews that it’s working on a next Steam Deck, but that it won’t release one for a modest speed bump. It wants a clear jump in performance at the same kind of battery life, and it has said the chips available today don’t deliver that within a handheld’s power budget yet. Valve hasn’t made any of this part of an official announcement, and it hasn’t given a year.
Steam Deck OLED price: $789 and $949
On May 27, 2026, Valve restocked Steam Deck OLED and raised the price of both models “due to rising memory and storage costs.” It said the Deck itself hasn’t changed and that the new prices reflect component costs and other logistics problems across the industry. Valve’s store page also warns that the OLED may be out of stock from time to time in some regions because of memory and storage shortages.
Valve gave the same reason in February, when it said memory and storage shortages meant it had to revisit pricing and shipping schedules for its new hardware, especially Steam Machine and Steam Frame. Steam Machine launched at $1,049 and Steam Frame at $1,059.
What a new Steam Deck would have to beat
Here’s Valve’s spec sheet for the current Steam Deck OLED. Valve says Steam Machine, its living-room PC, has over six times the horsepower of Steam Deck.
Rumors Valve hasn’t confirmed
Valve hasn’t confirmed any chip, screen, price or release year for a next Steam Deck. It hasn’t confirmed reports that link an unannounced AMD chip codenamed Gainsborough to a new Deck, and AMD hasn’t commented on them. Valve has also ruled out a Steam Deck built on AMD’s Ryzen Z2 handheld chips. None of the release years that have circulated online for Steam Deck 2 come from Valve.
SteamOS on other handhelds
While there’s no new Deck, Valve keeps widening SteamOS support for other handhelds. SteamOS 3.8, released on June 17, 2026, added controller, power-limit and speaker support for the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally series and controller support for the Lenovo Legion Go 2. SteamOS 3.8.28, released on Sept. 24, 2026, added a section of fixes for non-Valve devices and improved support for MSI Claw and OneXPlayer models.
